El actual dirigente sirio, Bachar al Asad, se ha hecho con un cuarto mandato y seguirá gobernando el país árabe durante siete años más tras arrasar con el 95,1 % de los votos en las polémicas elecciones presidenciales celebradas el miércoles en los territorios bajo su control.

"Estoy contento y honrado de anunciar la victoria de Bachar Hafez al Asad para la posición de presidente de la República Árabe de Siria", ha anunciado este jueves desde el hemiciclo el presidente del Parlamento, Hamuda al Sabag.

El Consejo de Diputados de Siria anunció este domingo que el país irá a elecciones presidenciales el próximo 26 de mayo, en todas las áreas controladas por el presidente Bashar al-Assad de una Siria que sigue sumida en la guerra. Estos son los primeros comicios presidenciales desde 2014, convocados por el Gobierno, y que la oposición no reconoce desde el exterior.

Mahmoud Abbas’s Fatah party strips Nasser al-Qudwa of membership after he announced his own list of candidates in upcoming polls.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas’s Fatah party has expelled one of its senior officials over his attempt to field a separate list of candidates in a parliamentary election.

 

In a statement on Thursday, Fatah’s Central Committee said it had given Nasser al-Qudwa two days to reverse his decision and drop his breakaway challenge, but that he had failed to comply.

RAMALLAH, Feb. 28 (Xinhua) -- Fatah, a major faction in Palestine, has agreed to ally with other five factions to run in the upcoming general elections, according to a Fatah official on Sunday.

"Five factions have officially informed us that they are ready to ally with Fatah to contest in the elections in a unified list," Azzam al-Ahmad, a member of the Fatah Central Committee, told reporters in the West Bank city of Ramallah.

Libya’s parliament has brushed aside allegations of corruption to endorse a new, unified government in which a woman was appointed as foreign minister for the first time.

Libya has been unable to form a stable unified government since the fall of Muammar Gaddafi in 2011, with divisions between the east and west of the country leading to fighting and institutionalised division.

G-B Assembly unanimously adopts joint-resolution for interim province status

The Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly on Tuesday unanimously adopted a joint resolution to make the region an interim constitutional province.

The resolution was jointly-tabled by G-B Chief Minister Khalid Khurshid Khan and opposition leader Amjad Hussain.

The text of the resolution read that the federal government, the prime minister and the state institutions should give G-B the status of an interim constitutional province and adequate representation in the National Assembly and other federal bodies.

Este 18 de febrero, el presidente de Argelia, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, anunció que reorganizará el Gobierno y que disuelve el Parlamento para llamar a elecciones anticipadas, con lo que allana el camino para cumplir algunas de las demandas del movimiento prodemocracia Hirak. Justamente, el mandatario ordenó también la liberación de entre 55 y 60 activistas de ese colectivo que estaban presos por manifestarse en contra del anterior gobernante Abdelaziz Bouteflika.
