Las autoridades de Malasia prohíben viajar al extranjero durante tres años a los opositores que critican o ridiculizan al gobierno para "salvaguardar la imagen del país", según revela hoy la prensa local.

"Cualquiera que desprestigie el gobierno o lo denigre de alguna manera tendrá prohibido viajar al extranjero", indicó el departamento de Inmigración al diario The Star.

El veto de tres años se impone desde hace varios meses a quienes critican al gobierno y a quienes lo hacen en el extranjero a partir del momento en que regresan a Malasia.

Barisan Nasional component party leaders today pledged their full support to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

 

"We will stand all the way behind him to lead Barisan Nasional (BN) to ensure transformation of the country to continue,” MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai told reporters after a meeting in Parliament between the component party leaders and the BN chairman.

 

Speaking on behalf of all the BN component party leaders, Liow added: “We are confident that national transformation programme can achieve its vision by 2020."

 

No action against PKR protesters, says Johari

PETALING JAYA:  In response to recent demonstrations by grassroots members against PKR elections outside party headquarters, Datuk Johari Abdul said that action will not be taken against them as they are merely exercising their freedom to assemble.

“We believe in lawful assembly. It is a citizen’s right as long as they do not cause disturbance in the neighbourhood. Many of them are youths and this is good training for them,” he said at a press conference at PKR headquarters on Wednesday.

TELUK INTAN, June 3 (Bernama) -- Good cooperation among the Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties, which worked as a team, was among the factors that contributed to the coalition's victory in the Teluk Intan parliamentary seat by-election last Saturday.

Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir said the win was also due to the hard work of the party members in carrying out the campaign strategies in each polling district, thus enabling the party machinery to operate smoothly.

PETALING JAYA: PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail (pic) has warned outsiders not to cause trouble during the party’s elections.

She said there were cases of indiscipline in many of the party’s polling centres nationwide that actually been conducted democratically but was hijacked by non-members.

“Early findings from the PKR Election Committee show that the chaos during the voting process was caused by non-party members who were instigated by gangsters to do so.

PETALING JAYA: Datuk Mah Siew Keong's victory in the recent Teluk Intan by-election marks a turning point for Gerakan and an opportunity for the party to prove themselves to the people, said analysts.

Political analyst Khoo Kay Peng said choosing the Gerakan president in the by-election was the best decision voters there had made.

"Mah has much more experience, stature and local knowledge - that is the factor which aided him to win back the votes Barisan previously lost," he said when contacted by The Star.

PKR takes action against Chegubard

PETALING JAYA: Badrul Hisham Shahrin, better known as Chegubard, has been suspended from PKR with immediate effect following his recent media outbursts criticising the party’s election process.

PKR disciplinary board chairman Datuk Dr Tan Kee Kwong said Badrul had also been issued a show-cause letter as to why he should not be sacked from the party.

“He has made a press statement claiming the election process is dirty and not transparent.

BEIJING, May 29 (Bernama) -- A Cabinet appointment awaits Gerakan President Datuk Mah Siew Keong if he wins the Teluk Intan parliamentary by-election on Saturday.

Malaysian Prime Minister and Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said he was ready to give a commitment here.

"I can make a commitment here, if Datuk Mah wins the Teluk Intan by-election, then by virtue of being Gerakan president, he will be appointed a member of the Cabinet," Najib told the Malaysian media covering his six-day visit to China here.

TELUK INTAN, May 28 (Bernama) -- Gerakan on Wednesday lambasted the DAP candidate for the Teluk Intan parliamentary by-election for what it described as her inconsistent stand on hudud.

The party's advisor, Datuk Chang Ko Youn, said Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud had at first defended DAP's position not to support hudud but in a later interview she had said she rejected hudud.

TELUK INTAN, May 27 (Bernama) -- Barisan Nasional (BN) must intensify its campaign in an effort to recapture the Teluk Intan parliamentary seat from the opposition in the by-election on Saturday.

Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Tun Dr Mahathir said the BN machinery must work hard to win the hearts of the voters before Friday to ensure the party is victorious.

"We have to approach the people directly and not in a major gathering or feast which we find to be ineffective," he told reporters after a casual meeting with residents in Jalan Padang Tembak here, Tuesday.

TELUK INTAN, May 27 (Bernama) -- Gerakan Tuesday dismissed as untrue an opposition claim that Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Datuk Mah Siew Keong will be appointed a senator if he loses the Teluk Intan parliamentary by-election, polling for which is on Saturday.

Bukit Gelugor by-election: Polling centres close, counting begins

GEORGE TOWN: All 17 polling centres in the Bukit Gelugor Parliamentary by-election closed at 5pm, Sunday.

The Election Commission (EC) had expected turnout for the by-election to reach 78 per cent but as at 4pm, 43,814 or 53.26 per cent of the voters had cast their ballots.

Counting of votes has begun at the vote tallying centre at Dewan Sri Pinang and the official results are expected to be out as early as 8pm Sunday.

Bukit Gelugor parliamentary seat, Ramkarpal Singh Deo, today launched his manifesto, three days before polling day.

But it was Tanjong Member of Parliament (MP) Ng Wei Aik who made all the explanation on the projects to be implemented if Ramkarpal were to win the by-election.

Ramkarpal, the third son of the late Karpal Singh, said after 10 days of campaigning, he had identified six issues which had been included in his manifesto.

TELUK INTAN: Police warned all supporters from Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Rakyat on Thursday to adhere the Election Offences Act 1954 to ensure a safe campaigning period.

Hilir Perak OCPD Asst Comm Goh Kok Liang said the police would not hesitate to take stern action against anyone who tried to cause disturbance during the two-week campaigning period for the Teluk Intan parliamentary seat by-election.

"Aside from ensuring a smooth by-election to be held, the police also hope the by-election will be conducted fairly.

New polls dates for problematic divisions soon

PETALING JAYA: An annou­ncement will be made in the next few days on the new election dates for the problematic divisions in the PKR party polls.

Twenty-seven divisions, including 10 in Selangor, were directed to carry out their elections again due to irregularities.

“The party election committee will convene a meeting before deciding on when to hold fresh polls for the problematic divisions.

“An announcement should be made in the next few days.

Four PKR members sacked for indiscipline

PETALING JAYA: Four PKR members have been sacked from the party after they were found to be guilty for indiscipline during the party elections.

In statement posted on their official Facebook page on Wednesday said that the ones sacked are Radin Sharifuddin Mohamad Yasin from the Selayang division, R.Kumara Guru from Alor Setar, Zulkafli Abdullah from Hulu Selangor and Ahmad Jufliz Dato Faiza.

The decision was taken by the disciplinary committee headed by its chairman Datuk Dr. Tan Kee Kwong.
