TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The 2014 general election in Bali Province would be prone to conflict, particularly during an open campaign with a large number of mass. The past experience during Bali Governor election on May 15, 2013, is the example.

"Mass mobilization in legislative election is a serious threat to Bali security," said Bali National and Political Unity Agency (Kesbangpol) head I Gede Putu Jaya Suartama yesterday.

He added that the process of vote counting in polling stations by polling committees in every level needs to be monitored. Suartama said Kesbangpol has established a special team for election supervision and security. "It's aimed at early detection and prevention," he said.

Bali Governor Made Mangku Pastika has called on public not to be provoked by irresponsible people.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the Aceh Party Campaign Committee (KPPA), Kamaruddin Abubakar, admitted that violence in Aceh tend to escalate near the election. He called on the party members to avoid violence as the party would not tolerate it. "Any violations will be reported to the police," he said yesterday in Banda Aceh.

Recent upheavals in Aceh include shooting, car burning, and legislative candidate's post burning. One of the violent acts that became the national concern is a shooting that killed Faisal, a legislator candidate from the Aceh National Party in Gunung Gentng Mancang, southern Aceh on March 2.
