The National Mandate Party (PAN), one of the 12 political parties participating in the legislative election, said that repeat elections in a number of areas across the country could potentially affect the party’s votes.

Legal affairs and advocacy head of PAN Didi Suriyanto said that public enthusiasm would be lower than on the legislative election day.

“The voters’ spirit will not be the same as on April 9 [the original election day],” he said on Monday as quoted by kompas.com.

He added that psychologically the voters would also be affected by the quick-count results and likely to vote for the parties with higher votes based on those counts.

Previously General Election Commission (KPU) commissioner Arief Budiman said that based on KPU data as of Friday, repeat elections would be conducted in 590 polling stations in 23 provinces.

The repeat elections are being held after KPU found a number of polling stations with damaged and misplaced ballot papers. Based on KPU regulations, a polling station must hold a repeat election if it finds misplaced ballot papers before the votes are counted.
