The Indonesian Army (TNI AD) will deploy around 35,000 soldiers to assist the National Police before and during the July 9 presidential election.

"The Army will help the police maintain security during the presidential election. We have prepared our territorial forces from Babinsa to Koramil, Kodim, Korem and even Kodam," Army chief of staff Gen. Budiman said in Magelang, Central Java on Friday, as reported by kompas.com.

Budiman was referring to village supervisory non-commissioned officers, Military Rayon Command, Military District Command, Military Regional Command and Military Command, which all are part of the TNI AD's territorial command.

He said the soldiers would be deployed to various regions of Indonesia to safeguard the elections and also monitor violence-prone areas.

According to Budiman, security measures have been conducted since April for the legislative election.

He also maintained the TNI AD's neutrality while at the same time assisting the police to safeguard the election.
