Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) chairman Abraham Samad says the commission has given its blessing for him to become the running mate of Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) presidential candidate, Joko “Jokowi” Widodo.

According to Abraham, there have been no objections from inside the commission if he is nominated as Jokowi’s running mate.

“Yes, it has been approved,” said Abraham in Jakarta on Thursday as quoted by kompas.com.

He claimed that he had directly consulted other KPK leaders on his plan to run in the upcoming presidential election.

“The most important thing is for all KPK leaders to continue their struggle to eradicate corruption wherever they are,” said Abraham.

He further mentioned several former KPK leaders who were now working in other institutions, such as former deputy chairman M.Jasin who is now Religious Affairs Ministry inspector general; former deputy chairman Haryono Umar who is now the Education and Culture Ministry inspector general; and former KPK chairman Taufiequrachman Ruki who had served as Supreme Audit Agency deputy chairman.

“ All these positions have strategic functions, namely eradicating corruption,” said Abraham.

Earlier, KPK deputy chairmen Busyro Muqoddas and Zulkarnain said Abraham should stay in the commission until the end of his term of office in 2015.

Zulkarnain said Abraham’s responsibility as KPK chairman was to eradicate corruption in Indonesia and he hoped that his colleague could be committed to continue carrying out his duties.
