Both presidential and vice-presidential pairs, Joko "Jokowi" Widodo-Jusuf Kalla and Prabowo Subianto-Hatta Rajasa, have promised to improve the country's infrastructure if elected.
According to their mission statement, available on the General Elections Commission (KPU) website, Jokowi and Kalla have promised to build a 2,000 kilometers of roads across the country, in addition to building new ports, airports and industrial estates to support the country's economy, as reported by tempo.co.
They have also pledged to reduce the negotiation period for business agreements to only 15 days in order to improve efficiency.
Furthermore, they have promised to build 5,000 traditional markets, as well as modernizing those that are already established. Jokowi and Kalla have also promised to build new science and technology parks in several regions for the purposes of research.
Meanwhile, Prabowo and Hatta's mission statement includes a commitment to build 3,000 kilometers of roads across the country and 4,000 kilometers of railroad tracks if elected. They have also promised to build 2,000 low-cost apartments with 5 percent interest for tenants.
They have also said that they will prioritize tourism, property, education and creative sectors by allocating 10 percent of state funds to the government's Master Plan for the Acceleration and Expansion of Indonesian Economic Development (MP3EI), equaling around Rp 1,400 trillion.
Finally, they have also promised to donate Rp 1 billion (US$85,651) to every village nationwide within one year in order to accelerate improvements to village infrastructure.
