The Indonesian Scavengers Association (IPI) donated money to presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto and his running mate Hatta Rajasa on Monday.
IPI secretary general Andilado said that even though they did not donate a large amount of money to the political pair, which is listed as Number One on the ballots for the presidential election, they hoped that it would be a help to Prabowo's campaign, as reported by kompas.com.
"There are around 360 members here in attendance, and each of them has donated around Rp 1,000 [US$0.09] or Rp 2,000. The largest anyone donated was around Rp 20,000," he said at Polonia House in East Jakarta on Monday.
Andilado added that the donation had not been planned prior to their declaration of support for the Prabowo-Hatta pair on Monday.
One of the scavengers, Karjo, said that he was not reluctant to donate money to the campaign because he had an income of Rp 30,000 a day.
"I donated sincerely," he said.
Deputy secretary of the Prabowo-Hatta campaign team, Tjatur Sapto Edi, thanked the organization and hoped that they would receive blessings for their donation.
