Officials of the Independent Election Commission (IEC) say preliminary results will be announced on April 24, but it is still unclear when the release of overall findings will be announced.

KABUL (Pajhwok): Frontrunner in last weekend’s presidential elections Dr. Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai said on Friday he would prefer contesting a run-off election over withdrawing in favour a rival candidate.
In a video message, Ashraf Ghani said partial results from the April 5 elections were yet to be announced, but he was ready if the elections went to a second round run-off race. “God willing, we are the winner and ready if the polls go to a run-off round,” he added.
The Independent Election Commission (IEC) reported on Friday that 80 percent of election result sheets have arrived to their central office. The result sheets arrived in 5,156 security boxes from 13 provinces. The remaining results are to arrive in the upcoming days. IEC is responsible for the review of these documents.
“So far, 84% of the result sheets have arrived to the central office and have been collected. Most of these materials are under process. We can say that 84% of these materials end up to have 5156 TB” Noor Muhammad Noor, IEC Spokesman.

Just two days after millions of Afghans safely cast votes around the country, the Independent Elections Commission (IEC) announced on Monday that partial results of the presidential election would be released sometime this week.
IEC officials said votes have been tallied from provinces across the country and are being transferred to the IEC headquarters in Kabul via air transport. Once the ballots have arrived they will verify the count and then announce the preliminary results of the presidential election on April 24.
