Afghan President Ashraf Ghani has issued a decree approving most of the electoral recommendations presented by the Electoral Reform Commission.
Sayed Zafar Hashimi, the deputy spokesman for the president, on Sunday said that the president had issued a legislative decree approving seven (out of 11) electoral reform recommendations.
While he declined to detail which recommendations were approved, ERC releasing the proposal last week said that the proposal held 11 major points including preparation of voters list and invalidation of existing voter cards and reduction in the membership strength of the Independent Election Commission and Electoral Complaints Commission.
However, on changing current system of elections to parallel where political parties will have specific allotment, the president has asked ERC to present practical steps in a separate proposal.
Also, work plan has been urged for a transparency commission that was proposed to be created among other recommendations in the proposal.
