KABUL (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani has appointed Border and Tribal Affairs Minister Mohammad Gulab Mangal as the governor of eastern Nangarhar province, replacing Salim Khan Kunduzi who had resigned citing personal reasons.
Mangal would also serve as presidential advisor on tribal affairs, according the state-run Radio Television Afghanistan (RTA) on Tuesday.
The report said the appointment of Mangal as the governor of Nangarhar had been recommended by the Independent Directorate of Local Governance (IDLG).
The former governor of Helmand, Laghman and Paktika provinces, Gulab Mangal had served as head of the Committee that drafted Afghanistan's recent Constitution. Mangal was considered an effective governor by both foreign diplomats and military officials.
