KAJANG: PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Ismail has won the Kajang state seat in Sunday's by-election.

The final tally from all 88 channels showed Dr Wan Azizah securing  16,741 votes while Barisan Nasional's Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun garnered  11,362 votes (5,379 vote majority).

The voter turnout for the by-election was 72 percent (28,314 voters) compared to a turnout of 87.9 percent in the May 5 general election last year.

KAJANG: PKR has lodged a police report on campaigning materials that have been distributed to the constituents, which they claimed were libellous to the party leaders.

The materials contained alleged confessions of former PKR members concerning party supremo Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, said Selangor information chief Shuhaimi Shafiei.

There were also leaflets containing criticism of the Election Commission by opposition leaders.

The video attracted tens of thousands of hits as it struck a nerve with many around the world who have been or are constantly interrogated about their ethnicity.

Pressing issues over Selangor's leadership crisis including the up coming crucial Kajang by-election will not be on the cards during Pakatan Rakyat's 5th National Convention this March 8.

Although pressing the Registrar of Society to have Pakatan formalised as a political entity before the gathering, PAS secretary-general Datuk Mustafa Ali said that the issue of Kajang was not part of the convention's agenda.

The Court of Appeal has dismissed an application by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to recall former Supt Judy Blacious Pereira, a prosecution witness in his sodomy case, over the issue of the retired investigating officer’s credibility.

The three-member panel, led by Court of Appeal judge Aziah Ali, unanimously rejected the application made by Anwar’s lead counsel Karpal Singh.

Two major Sabah Barisan Nasional components are voicing reservations over a proposed fundamental shift in the decision making process of the ruling coalition.

The United Pasok Momogun Kadazanmurut Organisation (Upko) and Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) said Barisan's proposed switch from consensus to a simple majority in decision making should be made after thorough deliberations by the coalition's supreme council.

PBS secretary general Datuk Johnny Mositun said such an important shift should require an input from all senior component party chiefs.
