The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) and the Golkar Party would win the most votes in the April 9 legislative election, a recent survey showed.
PDI-P and Golkar have garnered 16.4 percent and 15 percent of the vote, respectively, according to a recent voter survey held by Saiful Mujani Research and Consulting (SMRC).
“The two parties are closely matched, taking into account the survey has a 2.6 percent margin of error” SMRC director, Djayadi Hanan, said as quoted by tempo.co on Sunday.
The survey took place on Feb. 10-20, and included1,520 respondents who were taken proportionally in 66 electoral districts with a level of confidence of 95 per cent.
Djayadi said the national survey was jointly conducted by SMRC and the Indonesia Institute, with a cost of Rp 300 million (US$26,256).
He said based on open questions, PDI-P and Golkar Party still lead the survey by 11.4 percent and 9.8 percent, respectively.
However, 47.7 percent of the respondents decided not to choose a party.
Meanwhile, he said, when respondents were given cards displaying party names, PDI-P garnered 14.9 per cent and Golkar 13.3 percent.
The survey also supplied mock ballot papers to simulate voting day.
The figures, he said, increased when we conducted the survey using this method, PDI-P got 16.4 percent while Golkar 15 percent. Some 17.7 percent of respondent abstained from voting.
Djayadi said the survey indicated that up to10 political parties would be able to enter the House of Representatives.
Only the Crescent Star Party (PBB) and the Indonesian Justice and Unity Party (PKPI) would unable to field candidates at the House.
Djayadi said, however, the PBB, which garnered 1.2 percent of the vote, could still get through based on the survey’s margin of error.
He said there were going to be three levels, in terms of direct opponents, in the April 9 legislative election.
In the first level, PDI-P would be competing with Golkar while in the second level, the Democratic Party (PD), the Grinder Party, and the National Awakening Party (PKB) would be competing against each other.
In the third layer, would comprise of the United Development Party (PPP), the National Mandate Party (PAN), the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), the Hanura Party and the Nasdem Party.
