Jakarta. Presidential and vice presidential candidates Joko Widodo and Jusuf Kalla have managed to raise as of Tuesday for their campaign up to Rp 35 billion ($3 million) from the public through bank accounts that they opened last month.
“The numbers have increased by Rp 3 billion since yesterday,” Zuhairi Misrawi, a member of Joko and Kalla’s campaign team, said on Wednesday.
The pair opened three bank accounts for their fundraising program on May 29, and the public can donate through those accounts. To date, 29,992 people have contributed to the accounts, collecting Rp 2 billion on average each day.
To audit the funds, Joko and Kalla’s team has appointed public accountant firm Answar Sugiharto & Partners.
“Yesterday, around 1,800 people contributed,” Zuhairi said.
He also reminded supporters interested in donating to the campaign that they should provide identification upon depositing or transferring into the funds.
“The funds cannot be used for the campaign without the sender’s clear identity. We hope the public would understand and give their full identity,” he said.
