Bosnian Presidency member Zeljko Komsic says his new party will be up and running next year, advocating new solutions and the equality of all Bosnians and Herzegovinians.

Zeljko Komsic, the Croat member of Bosnia and Herzegovina's tripartite State Presidency, says he is working on the formation of his new party after leaving the ruling Social Democrats in summer.

Syria opposition wins international backing

More than 100 countries have recognised a new Syrian opposition coalition, opening the way for greater assistance to the forces fighting to topple President Bashar al-Assad, including possibly military aid.

Backing for the Syrian National Coalition, formed in Qatar in November, was given at an international conference of the "Friends of the Syrian People" in Morocco on Wednesday.

The opposition had been under intense international pressure to create a more organised and representative body to channel any aid extended by foreign countries.

Israel to keep Palestinian funds for months

Israel will withhold tax revenues from the Palestinian administration until at least March, in response to the Palestinians' bid for statehood at the UN, Israel's foreign minister says.

Under current peace deals, Israel collects about $100 million every month in duties on behalf of the Palestinian Authority (PA) in the occupied West Bank. That money is primarily used to pay public sector salaries.

"The Palestinians can forget about getting even one cent in the coming four months, and in four months' time we will decide how to proceed"

Libyan military prosecutors have accused ex-leader Mustafa Abdel Jalil of abusing his power, after grilling him over the death of a general who led rebels during last year's uprising, a prosecution official said.

"Mustafa Abdel Jalil was accused of abuse of power and undermining national unity," by military prosecutors who questioned him in the eastern town of Marj over the 2011 assassination of Abdel Fatah Yunes, Majdi al-Baraasi told AFP news agency.

Manama: Bahrain’s justice minister on Tuesday assured sceptical members of parliament that they would not be excluded from a much-anticipated national dialogue expected to be launched between the various segments of the Bahraini society.

“There will be no exclusions of lawmakers and there will be no interference from foreign countries in the dialogue,” Shaikh Khalid Bin Ali Al Khalifa said during the parliament session after MPs expressed concerns on both counts.

A new study shows Democratic Party chairman Anas Urbaningrum has been cast by the media as the most hated politician in 2012.

The study, conducted between March 2011 and December 2012, shows that most stories about Anas that the news media produced were about his alleged involvement in an abundance of graft.

The Founding Fathers House (FFH), an NGO that conducted the study, analyzed 32,620 articles in 12 national newspapers, 27, 916 articles in seven online news portal and 9,069 news broadcast on seven TV stations. 

Gulf states, opposition urge arms for rebels

Manama: Syria’s opposition and its Gulf backers will press western governments this week to supply weapons to rebels, arguing that significant progress has been made to unify armed groups and bring them under civilian control.

As the Friends of Syria coalition prepares to meet in Marrakech on Wednesday, opposition leaders and Gulf officials said the time for outside direct military intervention has passed, with the rebels’ demands confined to supplies of arms, particularly anti-tank and anti-aircraft missiles.
