A minister on Sunday urged UAE citizens to check their names in the electoral college list and participate actively in the October 3 Federal National Council (FNC) elections for a transparent electoral process.

Abu Dhabi: With many former Federal National Council (FNC) members who won seats in the 2006 and 2011 elections contesting again, officials expect the FNC elections set for October 3 to be a very tight race.

“As the UAE confidently advances towards creating a more mature and securely institutionalised democracy, the Federal National Council elections 2015 will be a very tight race,” said Ahmad Bin Shabib Al Daheri, former deputy speaker of the FNC and member of the National Election Committee.

With a day left for nominations, 259 Emiratis, including 52 women, have registered their names for the upcoming Federal National Council Elections (FNC).

On Wednesday, the fourth day of candidate registration, 62 candidates, including 19 women, filed their papers at the candidate registration centres across the emirates.

Dubai: Candidates continued to nominate themselves in large numbers on day two of the nominations for the Federal National Council (FNC) elections on Monday.

In Sharjah, eight members registered for the candidacy, including a woman, while in Ajman seven people signed in for the nominations.

Aisha Mutawa Al Suwaidi, Principal of Al Manar Model School in Sharjah, thanked the Rulers of the country for giving her this wonderful opportunity, following the registration of her candidature at the Sharjah Consultative Council.

Dr Anwar bin Mohammed Gargash, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, and Federal National Council Affairs urged members to register their names from August16 to 20.

Dr Anwar Mohammed Gargash, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Minister of State for Federal National Council Affairs and chairman of the National Elections Committee, called upon hundreds of young Emirati soldiers to become involved in the upcoming Federal National Council Elections (FNC), which will be held on October 3.

The active participation of UAE women in the next Federal National Council (FNC) elections should be considered a national priority, according to Shaikha Manal bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of the UAE Gender Balance Council and Dubai Women Establishment, and wife of Shaikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister of UAE and Minister of Presidential Affairs.

The National Election Committee (NEC) will organise a series of seminars on the Federal National Council (FNC) elections across the country. The educational seminars will be organised from August 9 to 19 to raise awareness of the members of the electoral college on the regulatory and legal aspects of the electoral process.

SHARJAH // Sectarianism and intolerance have no place in campaigns for the Federal National Council polls, the head of Sharjah’s election organising body has said.

Mansour bin Nassar, head of the emirate’s National Election Committee, said candidates should get their messages across in advertisements and posters without being offensive or disrespectful of social values.

“Every candidate has the right to promote himself freely provided that he adheres to values and community principles,” said Mr bin Nassar, at a meeting with Sharjah Municipality.
