The coalition of opposition parties National Consensus Forces (NCF) called for a mass celebration on Monday on the occasion of the anniversary of the 1964 “October Revolution” that toppled the military government of the late President Ibrahim Abboud.

The Spokesperson for the NCF, Kamal Omar indicated that the NCF does not believe in the possibility of a solution within the current system, explaining that the coalition is currently stepping up its actions to topple the regime.

The spokesman also reported that the NCF has agreed with the Sudan Revolutionary Front (a coalition of armed movements and opposition parties) on an interim constitution "intended to serve during the coming transition period after the overthrow of the current regime". The text is supported by all political forces according to Omar.

The leader of the National Umma Party (NUP), el Sadiq el Mahdi has also called his followers to stage the protests because, he said, the failure to create a dialogue with the ruling National Congress Party seeking to find a “third solution” for the country’s present crisis.
