ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly (NA) began debate on the National Security Policy on Wednesday.

The debate was initiated by Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) parliamentarian Yousaf Talpur who said the army should not be part of the dialogue process. Talpur said the army’s responsibility was to protect the country’s borders.

JUI-F parliamentarian Mualana Muhammad Khan Shirani said external aggression had been painted as internal conflict. He further said the purpose of the coalition support fund was to pay for services provided.

Shireen Mazari from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) said action should be taken against terrorist groups after they are separated. Mazari recommended that services from the private sector should be taken in running religious seminaries.

Pakhtunkhwa Mili Awami Party chief, Muhmmad Khan Achakzai said protocol was still being provided to an individual who had violated the constitution. “One dictator sent the prime minister to the gallows and remained in power for ten years, while another exiled the prime minister along with his family and was refusing to come to court.” Achakzai added that it was now time to leave the politics of compromise behind.

Awami National Party (ANP) parliamentarian, Haji Ghullam Ahmed Bilour said the government should ask the Taliban about the bloodshed in Islamabad. He added that action against militants should continue along with the dialogue process.
