Manama, Apr. 5. (BNA) – Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Women (SCW) Hala Al Ansari has stressed the importance of consolidating Bahraini women’s political gains regarding the exercise of their right to participate in public affairs through voting or running as candidates in the next municipal of parliamentary elections.
Al Ansari said that Bahrain had guaranteed women the right to political participation, as stipulated by laws, the National Action Charter and the Constitution, which, she stressed, required the relevant sides to empower Bahraini women politically in order to achieve equal opportunities and build a sustainable competitive society.
She added that the SCW had made remarkable strides regarding the political empowerment of women since the inception of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa’s democratic reform project.
She explained that the Political Empowerment Programme, launched by the SCW, aimed to encourage women to exercise their political rights, as votes or candidates, and build their capacities, calling upon all state departments and NGOs to support the SCW’s efforts in this regard.
She revealed that the SCW was organising a workshop on the role of NGOs and political associations in enhancing women’s political participation.
