The rebel Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) said on Wednesday they had repulsed attacks by the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) on its positions in several areas in South Kordofan state.

SPLM-N spokesperson Arnu Ngutulu Lodi in a statement extended to Sudan Tribune said their fighters inflicted heavy losses on the assailant forces when it attempted to capture Sabat in Dalami county in the northern part of the restive state on 11 May.

Lodi added they repulsed another attack on Tomna village in the same area.

The rebel official said that they are fighting against the Sudanese troops which attacked them on Wednesday in Werne and Kau-nyaro areas.

He claimed they killed over 10 soldiers and an officer commanding the force that attacked Sabat.

SAF spokesperson, Al-Sawarmi Khaled was not available for comment.

Observers say the recent attacks were carried out in the northern parts of the troubled state where the SPLM-N rebelled since June 2011.

The two warring parties are expected to meet in Addis Ababa this month.

Sudanese officials say attacks against the rebels will continue unless the latter accept to sign a ceasefire agreement and negotiate a peace agreement with the government.
