A recent ruling by a Bahraini court sentencing four people to life in prison is part of the regime’s political game against the opposition, a political analyst says.

In an interview with Press TV on Tuesday, Jawad Fairooz, a former member of the Bahraini parliament, said the ruling is biased as such verdicts in the Persian Gulf monarchy are issued by the direct order of the Manama regime.

“The judge usually takes direct order from the government. So, definitely it is biased and directly ruled by the Executive body and is part of the political game that the regime is playing with the opposition,” he said.

On Monday, a Bahraini court jailed four people for life for blowing up a car near a financial center in the capital Manama in November 2013 "to disrupt a Formula 1 race." The court also handed down a fifth man a 10-year sentence in prison.

Commenting on a proposal by the Al Khalifa regime to set up an Arab court for human rights, the analyst said that the offer was aimed at averting the global attention from the regime’s gross violations of human rights.

“All types of human rights violations are occurring in Bahrain, but in the meantime the regime wants to fool and try to mislead the international community through this PR (Public Relations) and unfortunately some people are saying the regime is in the process of change and making reform in this regard. It is totally untrue,” he said.

Bahrainis have been staging demonstrations since mid-February 2011, calling for political reforms and a constitutional monarchy, a demand that later changed to an outright call for the ouster of the ruling Al Khalifa family following its brutal crackdown on popular protests.

Rights bodies have on various occasions slammed the Bahraini regime for using excessive force against peaceful protests.
