The draft law on the creation of a national council of social dialogue was approved by the Cabinet meeting held, Wednesday, in the Government Palace in Kasbah, under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Habib Essid.

Speaking to reporters, spokesman for the Cabinet meeting and Secretary-General of the Government Ahmed Zarrouk said the draft law is part of implementing  provisions of the social contract concluded, in January 2013, between the three production partners (government, Tunisian General Labour Union and Tunisian Confederation of Industry, Trade and Handicrafts).

Zarrouk added that the role of the council is to organise social dialogue and look at socio-economic issues of concern to the three partners.

The Secretary-General of the government said the national council of social dialogue is made up of a general assembly, a bureau of the general assembly and an executive board.

This composition helps meet the requirements of good governance, notably through the separation of the deliberative and executive authorities.

The general assembly of the council will be composed of an equal number of representatives of the government, the most representative labour organisations, nationwide, workers and business leaders.
