Battle of ballot: 45 poll staff attend workshop

JEDDAH: The municipal election committee on Wednesday held a training session for 45 poll staff members, who were given instructions in conducting elections in a smooth manner.

Mohammed Hassan Al-Zahrani, the coordinator at the local poll committee in Jeddah, said five training sessions will be held in the Jeddah Municipality building and 626 poll staff and law enforcement officers of both sex will be trained. 
Wednesday’s workshop reviewed the tasks to be carried out during the electoral process with special focus on curbing irregularities, he said, adding that professionals attended the event. 
Fourteen training sessions will be held in the coming week, he said.
Al-Zahrani said 430 male members will be trained by professionals and 86 participants will attend the sessions per day. Five training sessions will be held for female candidates and a total of 106 will attend the workshops, he said.
Four training courses are scheduled to be held for another 90 participants of the municipalities. 
The elections will be held between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Dec. 12 and the results will be out the following day.
Voters can register between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. from Aug. 22 to Sept. 14. Candidates can do so from Aug. 30 to Sept. 17.
Preliminary lists of candidates will be published on Sept. 30 while the last date for withdrawal is Nov. 19, when the final list of candidates will be announced.
