The Elections Committee on Sunday announced the preliminary list of candidates for the Majlis A’Shura’s eighth term polls. The list can be checked at walis’ offices across the sultanate and accessed on www.election.gov.om/shura
The deadline for raising objections against any candidate in the list is five days from the date of announcement.
The committee has said the complainant should give the reasons as per Article 31 of the Majlis A’Shura Members’ Elections Law. The article states that anyone may submit a complaint within five days from the data of announcement. The reasons for complain should be mentioned and supported with relevant documents. The committee will take a decision within ten days from the last day of filing of the complaint.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Interior will organise ‘Shura Forum’ seminars from August 24 till October 19. Walis, sheikhs, dignitaries and representatives of public organisations, civil society organisations, Omani Women’s Associations, teachers, businessmen and university students will participate in these seminars.
The seminars aim at highlighting the role of Majlis A’Shura and the importance of participating in the elections.
The first seminar will be held at the Pension Fund auditorium affiliated to the Ministry of Defence in Muscat on Monday, the second in Salalah on August 31, the third one in Khasab on September 7, in Rustaq on September 9, Nizwa on September 14, Sohar on September 16, Buraimi on September 21, Ibra on October 5, Sur on October 7, Ibri on October 12 and in Haima on October 19.
