Muscat: Khalid bin Hilal bin Saud Al Busaidi, Under Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Chairman of the Main Committee for the Majlis Al Shura eighth term elections said that the voting process, which started this morning at all wilayats of the Sultanate, is going very smoothly without any hindrances. As per the communications we have with the election centers, voters started turning-out to the polling stations since 7 am.

In a statement to ONA, Al Busaidi added that new technologies were introduced in this term's elections including the e-voting, which was used last Sunday (18th of October, 2015) by voters at the embassies of the GCC countries, the Sultanate's Commercial Office in Dubai, as well as staff at the electing and voting committees, the standard election center in the Wilayat of Bausher in Muscat Governorate and voters in Dhofar and Musandam Governorates. He affirmed that the e-voting has proved to be efficient and accurate, therefore there is a wider scope to use this system in the elections process in the future.

He also stressed that all circumstances are conducive to ensure the success of elections as all polling centers at the different wilayats have ensured full preparedness to this event. He pointed out that the mobile e-unit are available at the election centers during the voting period to enable voters who did not fix the e-system in their IDs to fix the system and thus being able to vote.

He added that workers at the public and private sector's organizations who provide evidence that they cast their votes will be deemed on holiday at the day of voting.

"The indicators of the initial sorting out of votes will be announced regularly at the Majlis Al Shura elections website," he furthered.

"Mobile users may be also updated on the latest indicators by downloading the Majlis Al Shura elections application. Moreover, Oman TV will provide live transmission of the election process and through the YouTube link," he continued.

"I would like to appreciate the cooperation spirit among voters and workers at the election committees. I would like also to thank local and international print, audio and visual media means for the good coverage of the event," he concluded.
