RIYADH: A low women’s turnout was registered in the electoral process in the Al-Khaleej neighborhood in the third electoral district with the exception of Al-Rawdah Center, which was characterized by medium to low turnout of female voters under the age of 20.
Middle-aged and older female voters turned out in greater numbers to vote in the municipal elections. These categories of women voters were much noticed going to cast their ballots for the 67 male and female contenders.
There was much ease in the centers for the voters and in all of the centers with organizing committees doing their best. The same went for those who followed up on the ballot boxes as well as those who counted them.
Voter Samira Al-Azaz speculated that the reason for the low women’s turnout had to do with their lack of trust in the election process. She said what needs to be done is to have more awareness programs to turn things around and show the importance of the role of women in the decision-making process and their importance in helping other women in the neighborhoods.
