KABUL (Pajhwok): The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) office on Thursday said the plan to classify electoral constituencies in districts was being referred to the Independent Election Commission (IEC) within a week after its finalization.

CEO spokesman Javid Faisal told a press conference here that the upcoming Wolesi Jirga and district council elections would be managed through needed technology and legal procedures to purchase the technology had been completed.

He said training of IEC officers would also start next week and technical process for registering voters had also been completed.

After the training, IEC officers would start preparing voter lists and designating polling stations, he said.

Faisal said budget problems for conducting the Wolesi Jirga and district council elections in July next year had been resolved.

“The draft for categorization of electoral districts will be final within a week and will be handed over to the IEC. The plan may be widely changed, but in categorization of electoral zones, no changes may come in a majority of provinces considering to the current situation of the country,” he said.

He said the second meeting of the electronic ID cards distribution committee, jointly chaired by the CEO and the second vice-president, had ordered e-ID cards distribution officials to take needed measures for distribution of the cards for the sake of transparency in the election process.

The Leadership Committee had tasked the Ministry of Interior (MoI) with ensuring security of all polling stations, he said.
