The Democratic Current, on Wednesday, said they are opposed to the revision of the electoral law, saying the move is an attempt to sidetrack the democratic process.

"The experience of the political and electoral systems has not come to fruition in order to draw lessons," it said in a statement on the 62nd anniversary of independence.

In this regard, it called on all the patriotic and democratic forces to assume their historic responsibility in defending the democratic process, to push for the completion of the establishment of all State institutions and to stand together against all attempts to amend the electoral law.

President Beji Caïd Essebsi, Tuesday, deemed it desirable to amend the electoral law before the forthcoming elections.

“I endorse calls for a review. This is highly advisable and we need to make the move before the next elections in spite of criticism," he said during a ceremony held at Carthage Palace on the occasion of the 62nd anniversary of independence.
