Hizbullah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah has accused Saudi Arabia of killing the Lebanese during the Israeli aggression on Lebanon in 2006 and expressed pessimism on the political situation of the country.

Riyadh “killed us in the 2006 July war,” and is “responsible for all the killing in the region,” Nasrallah said.

“Since its establishment, the role of Saudi Arabia and Israel has been to serve the U.S. interests in the region,” he stated.

'You Stink' Campaign Stages Protest near Central Bank as Activist Briefly Detained

The “You Stink” civil society campaign staged a march from downtown Beirut to the Central Bank in protest against corruption in Lebanon.

The protesters made their way from a Finance Ministry building in downtown and later arrived at the Central Bank in the Hamra neighborhood.

Soon after their arrival, activist Asaad Zebian was arrested with a member of the campaign accusing the security forces of “militia practices.”

Jumblat: I Have no Problem to Elect Aoun for Presidency

Progressive Socialist Party leader Walid Jumblat stated on Tuesday that he has no trouble to elect head of the Change and Reform bloc MP Michel Aoun as president.

“I have no problem to elect Aoun as president for the Republic as it will change nothing of Lebanon’s difficulties,” said Jumblat in an interview to the As Safir daily.

A new rally was held Sunday in the northern district of Akkar to denounce government plans to turn an existing garbage dump in the Srar area into a so-called “sanitary landfill” capable of receiving trash from areas across Lebanon as part of an emergency waste management project.

 

The demo was organized by civil society activists and attended by vocal Akkar MP Khaled al-Daher, Mufti of Akkar Sheikh Zeid Zakaria, two representatives of Akkar Greek Orthodox Bishop Basilios Mansour, and several municipal chiefs.

Akkar anti-trash activists organized a new sit-in on Wednesday to reject government plans to set up a so-called sanitary garbage landfill in the Akkar town of Srar.

The sit-in that was held in the Akkar town of Shir Hmayrin was organized by the “Akkar is Not a Dump” campaign and other activists amid a participation by a number of municipalities and mayors from the region.

Presidential Elections Delayed to Oct. 21 as Harb Laments 'Postponement Farce'

The presidential elections were postponed for the 29th time on Wednesday after a lack of quorum at parliament.

Speaker Nabih Berri scheduled the next session for October 21.

Following the meeting, Telecommunications Minister Butros Harb deemed the ongoing postponement of the polls as a “farce”.

He condemned linking the elections to regional developments, saying that the ongoing vacuum is an “insult” to the Lebanese people.

Activists, Police Clash Near Energy Ministry

Activists from “We Want Accountability” movement and security forces clashed on Tuesday near the Energy Ministry after the protesters blocked one of the facility's entrances.

Ministry employees told them that the ministry is a red line, refusing to remain trapped in their offices in Beirut's Corniche al-Nahr area.

But the demonstrators stressed they want accountability, saying their intention is not to ransack the ministry.

The clash caused the glass door of the entrance to be broken.

Decenas de personas han celebrado este domingo una sentada frente al vertedero de Naamé, uno de los desencadenantes de las protestas contra el Gobierno de Líbano, en protesta contra la decisión de las autoridades de reabrir las instalaciones durante siete días.

 

"No nos gusta obstruir proyectos, pero las promesas del Estado son falsas", han dicho los participantes en la protesta, que han prometido continuar la sentada de forma indefinida, según ha informado el diario libanés 'An Nahar'.

Por vigésimo cuarta vez el Parlamento libanés no logró nombrar un nuevo presidente para el país, cargo vacante desde el 25 de mayo de 2014 en que terminó su mandato de seis años Michel Suleiman, al persistir las divergencias entre los distintos sectores políticos.

El presidente del organismo legislativo, Nabih Berri, levantó la sesión ante la falta de quórum, y fijó la próxima reunión para el próximo 24 de junio, en un nuevo intento para nominar un nuevo jefe de Estado.

El Parlamento libanés fue incapaz hoy por vigésima cuarta vez de elegir un presidente para el país, puesto vacante desde el 25 de mayo de 2014, por divergencias entre los grupos políticos.

Ante la falta de quórum en la sesión de esta jornada, el presidente de la Cámara, Nabih Berri, fijó la próxima reunión para intentar elegir a un jefe de Estado el 24 de junio.

La primera sesión plenaria tuvo lugar el 23 de abril de 2014, pero ninguno de los candidatos en pugna obtuvo el voto de las dos terceras parte de los diputados (86 de 128).

Geagea: LF, FPM Seeking Adoption of New Electoral Law in First Legislative Session

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea stressed on Wednesday the need to set as a priority the approval of a new parliamentary electoral law during the next legislative session.

He stated before a delegation from Hawsh al-Oumara: “The LF and Free Patriotic Movement are working hard to adopt a new electoral law during the first legislative session because there are no other issues that are more pressing.”

The law on restoring the nationality of Lebanese residing abroad is also one that enjoys the same importance, he added.
