Bashir meets tribal leader over dispute with North Darfur governor

Sudanese president Omer Al-Bashir held a meeting with the notorious tribal leader Musa Hilal to discuss his dispute with the North Darfur governor, Osman Kibir, in the Chadian border town of Um Jaras on Sunday.

Hilal who was one of the main militia leaders that participated in the counterinsurgency campaign during the first years of Darfur crisis, turned recently his militiamen against le governor Kibir and accused him of feeding tribal conflicts in the state.

The Sudanese presidential assistant, Ibrahim Ghandour, has said the country is witnessing the largest political dialogue in its history announcing that the coming days will witness further political openness and dialogue between the government and opposition forces in order to arrive at solutions for the country’s crises.

Sudan’s opposition Popular Congress Party (PCP) has stressed that the objective of the national dialogue is to achieve democratic transformation and resolve conflicts denying and not to reunite the Islamic Movement (IM).

The PCP’s secretary of foreign affairs, Bashir Adam Rahma, said in a talk show broadcasted by the state-run Radio Omdurman on Friday that his party would engage in the dialogue to discuss the same issues raised by the opposition alliance.

Sudan’s opposition Popular Congress Party (PCP) announced that it has embarked on intensive contacts to convince the Darfuri rebel armed group to engage in dialogue with the government in order to achieve a comprehensive solution for all intractable problems facing the country.

Sudan’s opposition alliance sticks to its conditions for national dialogue

Sudan’s opposition umbrella organisation National Consensus Forces (NCF) has called on the ruling National Congress Party (NCP) to accept conditions set by the opposition for engaging in national dialogue.

The NCP had stipulated setting a timetable to apply opposition conditions, however, the NCF rejected the proposal, maintaining its position that the NCP must agree to its conditions prior to any dialogue taking place.

The leader of the Reform Now Party (RNP) Ghazi Salah al-Deen al-Attabani, has described the recent remarks by president Omer Hassan Al-Bashir as a list of “mere wishes and slogans”.

On Sunday, Bashir laid out the guidelines of a reform plan before the cabinet in an emergency session in which he announced the formation of a higher committee comprised of five sub-committees to implement its articles noting that the move does not contradict the ongoing dialogue with political forces.

Sudan’s PCP blames government for death of protester at Khartoum university

The Sudanese opposition Popular Congress Party (PCP) has held the government and the University of Khartoum (UofK) administration responsible for the death of Ali Abakaer Moussa Idris earlier this month.

Idris, a third-year economics student, died in hospital of gunshot wounds sustained during a demonstration which took place at the UofK on March 11th.

The PCP mentioned that the criminal report stated that Idris was shot by a Kalashnikov rifle from from a distance of 18 yards, stressing that the PCP demands retribution and rejects impunity.

Sudan and south Sudan have agreed to speed up the implementation of security arrangements and to determine the line zero related to the establishment of a buffer zone between the two countries, a Sudanese official said on Saturday .

The joint security committee rapporteur, Al-Moiz Farouq, told official news agency SUNAthat the recent visit to Khartoum by the South Sudanese defence minister, Kuol Manyang Juuk, aimed to operationalise the security mechanisms agreed by the two countries since 27 September 2012.

The former rebel Justice and Equality Movement led by Bakheit Abdallah Abdel-Karim (Dabajo) (JEM-Dabajo) referred its difference with the head of Darfur peace implementation Office, Amin Hassan Omer, to the president Omer Hassan Al-Bashir.

Last Tuesday the group said that state minister Omer refused to give them the chairmanship of Darfur Reconstruction and Development Fund (DRDF) who told them that the holder of this position would be named by the donor countries.

Sudan’s ruling party warns against attempts to break the law

The ruling National Congress Party (NCP) warned today against attempts to instigate lawlessness under the pretext of freedom and stressed that Sudan has more freedom available to its citizens than many other countries.

The head of the NCP organisational bureau, Hamed Sideeg, said in press statements following a meeting of the party’s leadership council on Thursday that they support freedom of expression for all people without exception.

The ruling National Congress Party (NCP) said that its chairman president Omer Hassan al-Bashir could be a neutral figure in the dialogue between the NCP and opposition parties should all sides agree on him as an authority for the process.

Badria Suleiman, a leading NCP figure, said at a political forum in Khartoum that the meetings that took place between Bashir and other political forces were made in his capacity as the president and not the NCP top man.

Top government officials request meeting with Darfuri tribal leader

Senior Sudanese officials have made a request to meet the leader of the Darfurian Arab Mahameed clan and MP, Musa Hilal, to convince him to end his undeclared mutiny in North Darfur state and stop bloody attacks carried out by his militias against the army.

Hilal’s forces seized five areas in North Darfur state following clashes against government troops over the last few weeks. The tribal leader is currently living in one of those areas after leaving Khartoum a year earlier.

Sudanese president Omer Al-Bashir met on Friday evening with Hassan Al-Turabi, leader of the Islamist opposition Popular Congress Party (PCP) for the first time since the political falling out between the two men in 1999 which led to the split of the ruling party.

Bashir and the godfather of his regime during the first ten years agreed to accelerate the preparation for the holding of the national dialogue with the participation of all the political and social components of the country.

SPLM-N to seriously consider AUPSC decision on talks with Khartoum: Arman

The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement/North (SPLM-N) chief negotiator, Yasir Arman, has said they would seriously consider the recent decision made by the African Union Peace and Security Council (AUPSC) regarding negotiations with the Sudanese government.

The rebel leader expressed hope that the decision would help warring parties to reach a "just, comprehensive, and lasting peace".
