Sudan’s opposition party denies participation in NCP-led dialogue

-The opposition Sudanese Congress Party (SCoP) led by Ibrahim al-Sheikh has dismissed press reports claiming that it decided to join the national dialogue.

Al-Siyasi newspaper on Sunday quoted the member of the dialogue coordination body known as 7+7, Aboud Jaber, as saying that the SCoP would join the national dialogue.

However, the SCoP , in a statement issued on Sunday, denied Jaber’s statement, describing the government-led dialogue as “infamous”.

 Sudan’s ruling National Congress Party (NCP) disclosed that it has held meetings with some unnamed opposition parties refusing to engage in the national dialogue in order to convince them to join the process.

NCP head of the political sector, Mustafa Osman Ismail, told the pro-government Sudan Media Center (SMC) on Saturday that his party has made new proposals to accelerate the dialogue process. he further said they would submit those proposals to the dialogue coordinating body known as 7+7 soon without elaborating on its content.

 Sudan’s dialogue committee known as 7+7 would meet on Tuesday to discuss resumption of the national dialogue ahead of its meeting with president Omer Hassan al-Bashir.

On Thursday al-Bashir who is also the chairman of the ruling National Congress Party (NCP) directed his party to prepare in cooperation with the 7+7 to convene the national dialogue following Eid al-Fitr holiday within two weeks.

Sudan’s president Omer Hassan al-Bashir has instructed the ruling party organs to set a timetable in coordination with the dialogue body known as “7+7” to convene the national dialogue following Eid al-Fitr holiday.

Bashir, who attended the emergency meeting of the political sector of the ruling National Congress Party (NCP) on Thursday, expressed his party’s commitment to hold the national dialogue in order to achieve national accord.

ICC prosecutor vows to continue efforts to arrest the Sudanese president

The prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) Fatou Bensouda has pledged to continue her efforts to arrest the Sudanese president Omer Hassan al-Bashir who is wanted by the court since 2009.

She called in her statement to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on the situation in Darfur on Monday evening for “devising concrete and effective strategies for the arrest of accused persons wanted by the court, and to give the ICC the full support it requires and is entitled to, in order to implement the Rome Statute as intended”.

NLJP resumes its participation in the Sudanese government

The National Liberation and Justice Party (NLJP) led by Tijani al-Sissi announced the resumption of its participation in the federal government 11 days after pulling its members out of the cabinet.

The Sudanese president Omer Hassan al-Bashir Sunday has issued a presidential decree extending the term of the Darfur Regional Authority (DRA) for one year effective 15 July, 2015.

The DRA was established to serve as the major body for implementing the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur (DDPD) signed between the government of Sudan and the former rebel Liberation and Justice Movement (LJM) in 2011.

ICC judges refer to UNSC Sudan’s non-cooperation on case of ex-defense minister

 The Pre-Trial Chamber II judges at the International Criminal Court (ICC) approved a request by the prosecutor and issued a finding of non-cooperation by Sudan in extraditing former defense minister Abdel-Rahim Mohamed Hussein who is now governor of Khartoum.

Hussein was indicted in March 2012 for charges of crimes against humanity and war crimes in connection with the Darfur conflict.

Opposition’s JPF resumes participation in Sudan’s dialogue process

The opposition Just Peace Forum (JPF) led al-Tayeb Mustafa announced the resumption of its participation in the national dialogue process without preconditions.

Last January, the JPF and the Reform Now Movement (RNM) of Ghazi Salah Eddin al-Attabani said they decided to “suspend participation in the national dialogue until the requirements of a conducive environment (...) are met”.

 Sudanese journalists on social media sites expressed surprise at a presidential decree issued by President Omer Hassan al-Bashir on Thursday declaring June 26 of each year as the National Media Day which coincides with the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture and the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

According to decree the minister of Information Ahmed Bilal Osman will deliver a speech on Friday during the celebration.

Sudan’s ruling party in discussion with Darfur NLJP over government participation

The ruling National Congress Party (NCP) is conducting discussions with the National Liberation and Justice Party (NLJP) former Darfurian rebel faction to reintegrate the federal government after suspending its participation .

On 17 June, the NLJP of Tijani al-Sissi decided to suspend its political partnership with the (NCP) and to withdraw from the government. The former rebel group accused the ruling party of not honouring a political agreement between the two parties.

The Shura and Notables' councils of the Sudanese Fur tribe have chosen Ahmed Hussein Ayoub Ali Dinar as the Sultan for the whole tribe. 

The elected Sultan Ali Dinar has renewed his commitment to communicate with -besides the large Fur tribe- all the tribes in Darfur, to resolve all social issues. At the event on Sunday, he announced that he wants to work with various native administrations to achieve security and stability in all parts of Darfur.

Two women elected deputy speakers of Sudan’s parliament

Two ladies have been approved by the parliamentary bloc of the Sudan’s ruling National Congress Party (NCP) to serve as deputy speaker for the parliament.

Badria Suleiman from the NCP and A’isha Mohamed Ahmed from the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) led by Mohamed Osman al-Merghani will hold the post for the first time in Sudan’s history.

Suleiman is a well known legal advisor who participated in the drafting of the recent constitutional amendments. She also headed the committee which was tasked last week with amending the National Assembly’s regulations.

Sudan’s RNM denies it is returning to national dialogue

The Reform Now Movement (RNM) led by Ghazi Salah al-Din Attabani said its return to the government-led national dialogue is contingent upon implementation of its conditions.

Last January, the RNM suspended its participation in the national dialogue mechanism to protest the refusal of the ruling National Congress Party (NCP) to implement a number of measures related to the creation of a conducive environment for the process.

El presidente de Sudán, Omar Hasan al Bashir, regresó hoy a Jartum después de que las autoridades de Sudáfrica no aplicasen la orden de arresto internacional que pesa contra él por crímenes de guerra y contra la humanidad emitida por la Corte Penal Internacional (CPI).

The opposition “Sudan Call” forces has launched Saturday the “Leave to Stop the War” campaign and called for immediate international intervention to stop aerial bombing on civilians and end the war in South Kordofan, Blue Nile and Darfur.

“Sudan Call” forces include the rebel umbrella Sudan Revolutionary Front (SRF), National Umma Party (NUP) and the opposition alliance of the National Consensus Forces (NCF).
