Congress members’ immunity lifted
The Congress member from Ghariyan, Mohamed Yunis Toumi, was attacked yesterday while visiting Libya Al-Watania TV station in Tripoli.
The Justice and Construction Party (J&C) today refuted claims that they control General National Congress and exerted an undue influence on the government. Such claims were dismissed by a spokesman as “slanderous”.
The Libyan authorities should urgently put into place legislative and judicial measures to protect the rights of journalists and guarantee freedom of press, said Reporters Without Borders (RWB).

On July 16, Libya's legislature, the General National Congress (GNC), finally approved the Constitutional Drafting Commission electoral law which outlines the rules and guidelines for electing the 60 member commission charged with drafting Libya's constitution.
Speaking as head of the Committee charged with implementing GNC Law No 27 regarding the clearing of Tripoli of armed groups, Electricity Minister Ali Muhairig said that his committee was independent.
