The General Elections Commission (KPU) released on Thursday a preliminary list of candidates running for office in the 2014 legislative elections, commissioner Ferry Kurnia Rizkiansyah said.

“It will be published on the KPU official Web site at www.kpu.go.id on [Thursday],” Ferry said.

The online list will include more data on the candidates — an improvement on previous lists — including photos, addresses, constituency and other data in order to better inform the public.

A total of 6,637 names have been submitted by the country’s political parties for contests in 77 electoral regions.

Only 6,560 candidates would be on the preliminary list, however, because 77 names were removed, either because of incomplete information or because they did not meet the requirements.

Female candidates comprise 38 percent of the total.

Ferry said the 77 disqualified candidates would not be replaced because the law only allowed for substitution in the event of death, resignation, or dismissal.

Any voter wishing to make a complaint of improper conduct or illegality against a candidate must make their application before June 28.

The KPU will investigate any complaints between June 28 and July 4.

The final list will be worked on between August 9 and 22 before the election itself on April 9, 2014.
