BEIRUT: Representatives of the Amal Movement met Wednesday withFree Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun at his residence in Rabieh, a Change and Reform bloc MP told The Daily Star.

MP Ibrahim Kanaan said that MP Ali Bazzi, from Speaker Nabih Berri’s Development and Liberation bloc, and other Amal representatives visitedRabieh in the morning.

“They will likely hand General Aoun an invitation to the anniversary of missing Imam Musa Sadr's disappearance,” Kanaan said.

Kanaan said the talks in Rabieh could also touch on the ties between Aoun and Berri and the differences between the two.

Ties between the FPM and the Amal Movement have recently been strained over political disputes, mainly surrounding Aoun’s objection to the June extension of Parliament term as well as other controversial issues.

The Amal Movement, of which Sadr was a founding member, holds a yearly commemoration of the Shiite imam who disappeared during a visit to Libya in 1978.

This year’s ceremony will mark the 35th anniversary of the Imam’s disappearance.
