According to our correspondent Abdiaziz Mohamed Ali Hajji, a car bomb blasted this morning in Mogadishu’s Hamarweyne district.

The bomb said to be an IED, was tied to the car of Members of Parliament and unexpectedly blasted as they were driving by Hamarweyne, a district only minutes away from the presidential palace.

The explosion instantly killed Isaak Mohamed Riino, a Member of Parliament whereby four others were seriously wounded.

Onlookers described the explosion as ‘huge’ with the vehicle suffering complete wreckage. Ambulancess rushed to the scene and took the wounded to a hospital nearby.

The district commissioner of Hamarweyne appointed by the Benadir regional administration Abdikadir Mohamed Abdikadir reported to the press that, the bomb was indeed an IED and was tied to the car at a parking lot. The commissioner described that the MP’s tried to make an escape after they realized the bomb was in the car, when at that moment it exploded.

There has been a surge in explosions recently in Mogadishu, specifically with IED bombs placed in cars of high-profiled politicians and other government officials.
