The Federal National Council has approved 547 drafts laws and issued 300 recommendations in the last 43 years.
This was revealed by Dr. Saeed Mohammed Al Ghafli, assistant undersecretary for Federal National Council (FNC) Affairs in the Ministry of State for Federal National Council Affairs
During a lecture titled "Political participation and the effective role of the Federal National Council" organised by the Dubai Police in collaboration with the Ministry of State for Federal National Council Affairs, he highlighted the importance of political participation and the effective role of the FNC. He said the elections held between 2006 and 2011 has had a positive impact on the UAE people. He stressed that FNC members represent the voice of the people and work towards achieving their ambitions and aspirations.
The FNC also contributes to building a state of law and the consolidation of the Shura approach and also enhances accountability and transparency. Ghafli revealed that the council has approved 547 draft laws, discussed 301 subjects, issued 300 recommendations and has raised 658 questions between 1972 and 2015. The FNC has also contributed towards building an electoral system and the participation of women whether through election or appointment.
He pointed out to the importance of elections his year which allows citizens to participate and interact with the government in issues concerning them, while on an international level it enhances the role of the FNC in participating in international issues and in woman empowerment.
Concluding his lecture Ghafli said the FNC elections this year will be held in three stages: Voting from abroad which will be a manual voting system through the use of ballots; an early voting system where elections will be held at elections centres in all the emirates, and the third and main election on the final day through an electronic voting system.
