LAHORE:

Local government candidates from Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaaf (PTI) and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) have been campaigning aggressively for elections in Union Council-220, Wafaqi Colony.

They say the densely-populated area is plagued with problems. Both claim to be the only hope for their constituency.

PTI’s candidate for vice chairman Naseer Bhalla says provision of basic facilities is on top of his agenda. He says opening public schools in the neighbourhood was another priority.

He said he is confident that most of the 16,000 registered voters in the area would vote for him.

PML-N’s candidate Muhammad Aamir Shaukat has a similar campaign. Party workers say that provision of safe drinking water and building a sewerage system were the top priorities. They say residents had also complained of bad roads in the union council. They say the party’s candidate would address the problems if he secured the seat.

The union council comprises parts of Johar Town and a large portion of the Wafaqi Colony.
