Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry said on Saturday that President Abdel Fattah El Sisi called for intensifying efforts to settle the Palestinian issue and revive peace talks as well as end the inter-Palestinian division.

President Sisi agreed with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas at their meeting earlier on Saturday to continue Cairo's support for establishing an independent Palestinian State within the borders of June 4, 1967 with Al Quds as its capital, Shoukry said in his speech at an Arab foreign ministers meeting in Cairo.

"Egypt took part in an initiative to hold a UN Security Council meeting this month to shed light on the protection of Palestinians," the top diplomat said.

He added that Egypt will also take part in the coming days in the first meeting of a French initiative for peace in the Middle East.

On Libya, the foreign minister stressed Cairo's keenness to end all forms of conflicts and tension in the North African country.

He asserted the necessity of supporting the political process, the Libyan Presidential Council and the national unity government led by Prime Minister Fayez al-Sarraj.

"Egypt stresses the importance of adopting a Libyan national approach to fight terrorism in a way that preserves the State institutions," he said.

On Syria, Shoukry urged more efforts for pushing up the peace process in Syria and protect what has been achieved since a cessation of hostilities agreement came into effect on February 27.
