Elections To Be Held At The End Of This Solar Year

CEO’s office said a meeting was held Wednesday between Abdullah Abdullah, Second Vice President Mohammad Sarwar Danish and IEC members.

The office of Afghan Chief Executive on Wednesday announced that parliamentary and district council elections will be held by the end of current solar year [21 March 2018].

In a statement issued by the office of the CEO after a joint meeting or Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah and Second Vice President Sarwar Danish meeting with the Independent Election Commission (IEC), government said elections were a priority.

The statement said they briefly discussed the planned parliamentary elections and its challenges.

A team, including two international election experts -- from Belgium and Indonesia -- and an Afghan expert, are tasked to conduct a feasibility study of electronic voting for the upcoming elections. The study is said to be finished within two weeks.
