he hard-line Bosnian Serb leader Milorad Dodik appeared set on Monday to take a seat on Bosnia's state presidency alongside Sefik Dzaferovic and Zeljko Komsic – in election results that are unlikely to ease Bosnia's political crisis.

Bosnia's politial future looked more uncertain on Monday after the hard-line Bosnian Serb leader Milorad Dodik looked set to win the Serbian seat on Bosnia's three-member state presidency.

Polls closed at 7pm on Sunday in an election in which 3,352,933 voters were eligible to vote at 5,794 polling stations.

The incumbent Member of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s (BiH) Presidency Mladen Ivanic announced his candidacy for another term at the upcoming general elections on Monday in Banja Luka, a city 190 kilometers northwest of the capital Sarajevo.

During the meeting, representatives of 10 parties in Republika Srpska (RS), one of the entities in BiH, signed the Agreement on Principles of Joint Action, presenting Ivanic as a candidate for BiH Presidency in front of Parties of Alliance for Change.

Opposition parties from the Alliance for Change coalition in Bosnia’s Serb-dominated Republika Srpska entity signed an agreement to co-operate in a bid to defeat President Milorad Dodik’s party at polls in October.

Three major Bosnian Serb opposition parties, along with six other political groups, joined forces on Monday in an attempt to defeat the coalition centred around Republika Srpska President Milorad Dodik’s Alliance of Independent Social Democrats, SNSD, which has been in power in the entity for 12 years.

The most important goal in the upcoming general election is to prevent Croat leader Dragan Covic from once again being a member of the tripartite Presidency, member of the Civic Alliance (GS) political council, Emir Suljagic, told N1.

Suljagic was a Bosniak Presidency member candidate in the 2014 general election, representing the Democratic Front (DF), who’se leader, Zeljko Komsic, is now running for the Croat Presidency member position.

The Presidency is composed of three members representing Bosniaks, Croats and Serbs.

Sefik Dzaferovic is SDA's Presidency candidate

Sefik Dzaferovic won the majority vote for the Democratic Action Party’s (SDA) candidate for Bosnian Presidency. During the SDA Convention, he won 104 votes while his opponent and party colleague Safet Softic won 87 votes.

Speaking to the press, he said it is never easy being a candidate for one of the most responsible functions in the country. He said the party will succeed and win the election because the SDA is a team and only as such can they succeed.

His opponent, Safet Softic said the party Convention showed that the SDA is a democratic party.

Venice Commission's experts with Bosnian leaders in June

The Venice Commission representatives would hold meetings with leaders of Bosnia's political parties the next month to discuss the changes to electoral legislation, participants of the meeting held at premises of the EU Delegation to Bosnia and Herzegovina concluded on Thursday.

The Venice Commission's delegation arrived this week to assist Bosnia's politicians and authorities in finding an agreement on the burning issue of the changes Bosnia has to make to the Election Law, in order to align it with the country's Constitution.

The incumbent Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) Denis Zvizdic has resigned of the candidacy for member of tripartite BiH Presidency on Friday afternoon in BiH’s capital Sarajevo.

Zvizdic has decided to resign of the candidacy after the Presidency of the Party of Democratic Action (SDA), of which Zvizdic is member for 27 years, has decided that the candidate for Presidency will be elected by individual and secret ballots.

The Vice President of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s (BiH) major party Denis Becirovic announces his candidacy at upcoming presidential elections in October for the member of BiH tripartite presidency, his official social media account said Saturday late night.

Premier of Canton Sarajevo (CS) Elmedin Konakovic submitted the resignation letter on Monday in Bosnia and Herzegovina’s (BiH) capital Sarajevo, a week after the dismissal from the CS government, local media reported Monday. The resignation letter that thanked for the former cooperation was submitted to the Chairman of Canton Sarajevo Assembly Ana Babic.

“I use the opportunity to thank you for the good cooperation done so far and to wish you a successful work in the future” Konakovic wrote shortly in the resignation letter.

Bosnian leaders hope for positive feedback from the EU Council of Foreign Ministers, which meets on Monday, after the country's Presidency secured last-minute approval of one of the key measures Brussels wanted Sarajevo to fulfil.

The International Monetary Fund, IMF, has postponed approval of a 550-million-euros program for Bosnia and Herzegovina after Bosnia’s authorities failed to sign the already reached agreement.

“Due to a delay in the signing of the Letter of Intent, LOI, the IMF Executive Board meeting to consider the authorities' request for an arrangement under the Extended Fund Facility had to be delayed until further notice,” Francisco Parodi, the IMF Representative to Bosnia, said in a statement on Thursday.
