Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman [UAE]: Dubai: The Federal National Council (FNC) elections have been successfully conducted across the country and concluded late evening on Saturday with the declaration of preliminary results of winning candidates.

The National Election Committee (NEC) announced the names of the winning candidates at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (Adnec) in the capital.

FNC elections: 555 Emiratis, including 200 women, file candidacy

A total of 98 Emiratis filed their candidacy for the Federal National Council (FNC) elections on the last day of registration of application, taking the total figure up to 555, including 200 from women in five days.

On Thursday, Abu Dhabi received 27 applications, Dubai 26, Sharjah 18, and Ajman saw six. While no applications were registered in Umm Al Quwain on the fifth day, Ras Al Khaimah recorded 14 applications and Fujairah saw seven.

Nine FNC centres to start accepting registrations this week

Abu Dhabi: Nine candidate registration centres will start receiving applications for Federal National Council (FNC) membership this week.

All eligible potential candidates wishing to submit their applications can do so at centres in their respective emirate from Sunday to Thursday, between 8am to 3pm. There are three centres in Abu Dhabi, and one each in Dubai, Sharjah, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah.

The National Elections Committee (NEC) on Monday announced the timeline of the upcoming fourth election cycle of the Federal National Council, FNC, with Oct.5, 2019, selected as the main election day.

As part of its sustained efforts to ensure transparency, integrity and accuracy of the elections the timeline announced outlines all of the steps and processes.

NEC also launched a call centre for the fourth cycle of the elections, and unveiled the new logo of the 2019 elections.

Presidential candidate and Gerindra Party chairman Prabowo Subianto left Indonesia on Tuesday morning for a trip to Dubai, the United Arab Emirates, and Vienna, amid speculation that his party was linked to the May 22 riot.
 
Gerindra executive Ahmad Riza Patria confirmed that Prabowo had flown to Dubai with several friends on a private jet for a medical checkup.
 
“He is there for a routine medical checkup, something that he regularly does. He will also meet several business colleagues there,” Riza said.
 

UAE equal-pay legislation approved to close gender gap

The United Arab Emirates’ Cabinet approved a bill guaranteeing equal pay for men and women as the Gulf nation strives to bring more females into its workforce. “We don’t want any exceptions to equal opportunities between the sexes,” UAE Prime Minister and Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashid al-Maktoum said on Twitter. He didn’t say when the bill would be presented to the country’s advisory federal national council for final approval.

ABU DHABI // Eight new ministers, five of them women, have joined the federal Government in the biggest shake-up in its history.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, announced the appointments to the 12th Cabinet on Wednesday.

The announcements came after consultation with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, and with the approval of the President, Sheikh Khalifa.

ABU DHABI // The happiest nation in the Arab world is planning on getting even happier.

As part of a major Federal Government shake-up, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, on Monday announced the new post of Minister of State for Happiness, the first of its kind in the region and one of the few in the world.

“It’s a historical decision,” said Saeed Al Nazari, an Emirati who started a UAE chapter of the Global Happiness Organisation, a non-profit body that aims to promote happiness worldwide.

The first day of voting for Sharjah Consultative Council (SCC) elections on Thursday saw a huge turnout across all nine polling stations. Citizens flocked to cast their votes for the candidates they believe will be perfect to convey their messages to the government.

SHARJAH// Two hundred candidates have been approved to stand for the 21 seats on the Sharjah Consultative Council.

On Sunday, the Sharjah Election Committee announced the initial list of approved candidates for the first local election in the history of the country.

The list includes 43 women.

In Sharjah city, 96 applications, including 25 women, were approved to compete for six seats.

The eastern region has had the second-highest number of candidates, with 30 competing in Khor Fakkan and 23 in Kalba for three seats in each district.

SHARJAH // Registration has been extended for people wanting to vote in the Sharjah Consultative Council elections

The higher committee of the SCC has extended registration to December 19, from December 17, following requests from citizens.

The Sharjah Advisory Council elections highlights the maturity of the parliamentary experience, and marks a new step in the efforts to strengthen political participation and empower citizens, a UAE minister has said.

SHARJAH // Emiratis are answering the call to duty and registering in large numbers for the Sharjah Consultative Council elections.

The deadline for registration is Thursday and Mansoor bin Nassar, head of the higher elections committee, encouraged Emiratis to become involved after a disappointing number visited registration centres last week.

ABU DHABI // Oration, education and the electoral campaign of a candidate were the major influences on who Emiratis voted for in the recent FNC elections, a study shows.

The report, How do Emirati Voters Determine for Whom to Vote in FNC Elections? by UAE University professors Abdulfattah Yaghi and Osman Antwi-Boateng, questioned 1,800 Emirati voters, out of which 1,518 results were assessed.

About 86 per cent of the interviewed sample considered a candidate’s speechmaking skills as a major factor in their appeal.

Emiratis eligible to vote for the upcoming Sharjah Consultative Council (SCC) elections have been urged to register at the Sharjah Municipality and other centres in their electoral zones.

The registration process for the SCC elections began on Sunday at the Sharjah Municipality.

Khalid Al Midfa, head of the Media Committee for SCC elections, said six registration centres have been set up in the Sharjah City. In addition, registration centres have been set up in the Dhaid, Khor Fakkan, Kalba, Dibba Al Hisn, Hamriya, Maliha, Madam and Al Bataeh areas.
