Darfur Regional Authority officially dissolved

Sudanese government Monday, announced the official dissolution of Darfur Regional Authority (DRA) and Darfur Peace Office, indicating that the implementation of peace agreement in Darfur region.

The DRA was established in line with the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur (DDPD), which was signed in July 2011, by the Government of Sudan and former rebel Liberation and Justice Movement, and the Justice and Equality Movement-Dabajo in April 2013.

Sudan FM calls on UN chief to put pressure on holdout groups

Sudanese Minister of Foreign Affairs has called on the United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to intensify pressures on the armed groups and opposition parties to sign the African Union Roadmap Agreement for peace in Sudan.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday, Ghandour who is currently in New York briefed Ban Ki Moon on the outcome of the national dialogue and the efforts exerted to convince holdout opposition groups to join the peace process.

Sudán del Sur y Sudán reanudaron hoy conversaciones sobre temas sumamente complejos, entre ellos la delimitación de las fronteras y los ingresos por la explotación petrolera, aspectos pendientes desde 2011, cuando se separaron.

Según opinaron analistas políticos, Jartum espera que la mejora de las relaciones bilaterales pueda ayudar a resolver el asunto de las rebeliones persistentes en ambos lados de la frontera y que también provocaron una prolongada guerra de palabras.

South Sudan presidency agrees to review 28 states

 In unexpected move which is described as a breakthrough, the South Sudan’s presidency has agreed to review the 28 states and come up with a recommendation on the number of new states within 30 days.Kiir, First Vice President, Riek Machar and Vice President, James Wani, at the presidential palace on Wednesday.

In a joint statement to the press by the two deputies after the meeting, a committee of 15 members will be constituted from all the parties to the August 2015 peace agreement and from the international partners to come up with recommendation on new states.

 El Consejo de Seguridad de la ONU prorrogó hoy por un año sus sanciones sobre Sudán del Sur y exigió a las partes del conflicto en el país africano el cumplimiento de los acuerdos de paz.

En una resolución, el Consejo decidió seguir adelante con el actual régimen de castigos, que incluye medidas financieras y de restricción de viajes para varios individuos.

Sudanese President Omer al-Bashir would head his country’s delegation participating in the upcoming Arab League (AL) summit which will be held in the capital of Mauritania, Nouakchott in July, said Sudan’s state foreign minister

The Sudanese president visited Mauritania two times since the ICC issued the arrest warrants.Bashir is under two International Criminal Court (ICC) arrest warrants since 2008 for genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes allegedly committed in Darfur.

South Sudan foreign minister meets Arab League representative in Juba

The representative of the Arab League in South Sudan, Mohammed Munsif, confirmed their commitment to the return of stability in the country.

Munsif made this statement after a meeting with South Sudan foreign affairs minister Deng Alor on Wednesday.

He added that Egypt and Arab League are reiterating their commitment to the return of stability in South Sudan.

For his part, the minister of foreign affairs Deng Alor said it is important for South Sudan to have a relationship with the Arab League.

In April 2016, government security forces, including national security and riot police, clamped down on student demonstrations against the sale of Khartoum University buildings, as well as the earlier detention of protesters and a range of other issues at campuses across Sudan.

According to HRW, some have been held for more than a month in unknown locations without access to lawyers or contact with their families.

The Deputy Director for HRW's Africa Division, Leslie Lefkow, told DW that the victims were at increased risk of torture.

High Court rules S Africa should have arrested Bashir

South Africa's High Court has denied the government leave to appeal against a court ruling that it should have arrested Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir during a recent visit.

The High Court on Wednesday rejected the government's bid to appeal the ruling that it had a legal duty to arrest the Sudanese president.

"We do not hold the opinion that the appeal has reasonable prospects of success at all," Judge Hans Fabricius said in the country's administrative capital Pretoria.

"The application for leave to appeal is dismissed with costs."

 Sudan’s Popular Congress Party (PCP) led by Hassan al-Turabi has disclosed ongoing contacts with the exiled leader of the opposition National Umma Party (NUP) al-Sadiq al-Mahdi to convince him to return to the country.

The NUP leader left the country in August 2014 after a month in jail over remarks he made against the government militia known as the Rapid Support Force (RSF).

Bashir to meet with political leaders to discuss start of national dialogue

An official in Sudan’s ruling National Congress Party (NCP) said on Monday that president Omer al-Bashir will hold a meeting with political party leaders next week to schedule the opening session of the national dialogue.

The head of the NCP political sector Mustafa Osman Ismail told reporters that his party did not seek to postpone the dialogue but that the debate took place within the dialogue’s 7 +7 mechanism on the date change.

Opposition’s PCP rejects new delay of Sudan’s dialogue

The opposition Popular Congress Party (PCP) expressed its opposition to a proposition by the ruling National Congress Party (NCP) to delay the national dialogue to next October saying they can no longer accept a new postponement.

NCP officials said last June they would launch the national dialogue after the end of Ramadan. But, some other members within the ruling party and some dialogue forces said it is better to delay it in order to persuade the holdout forces to take part in the process.

The National Liberation and Justice Party (NLJP) headed Tijani al-Sissi underscored on Wednesday that the chairman of Darfur Regional Authority (DRA) is appointed by the president of the republic and chosen from the signatories of the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur (DDPD).

The NLJP was reacting to a statement by the Justice and Equality Movement of Bakheit Dabajo (JEM-Dabajo) Tuesday saying they would propose a candidate to the Sudanese president for the DRA chairmanship.

SPLM-N says it received no invitation for meeting with AU mediator

The rebel group of Sudan People Liberation Movement North (SPLM-N) denied media reports published in Khartoum claiming that the head of the African Union High Level Implementation Panel (AUHIP) Thabo Mbeki invited the group’s Secretary-General Yasir Arman to travel to Addis Ababa for consultations.

SPLM-N spokesperson Ardol Mubarak blamed this report on a member of the Sudanese government negotiating team by the name of Hussein Karshum.
