As the first round of Egypt's parliamentary elections came to a close on Monday night, turnout appeared weak for the second consecutive day, highlighting growing disillusionment since the army seized power in 2013.

Prime Minister Sherif Ismail said turnout on Sunday had been just 15-16 percent, but that it should rise after public sector workers were given a half-day off to vote.

PML-N UC candidate shot dead

LAHORE: A PML-N candidate for the upcoming local body elections was shot dead in the Misri Shah police precincts on Monday.

Police said Imran, 45, and Mohsin Shah belonged to Wahdat Colony and were friendly with each other before candidates for the elections were announced. They said Imran got a ticket from the PML-N for Union Council-43 while Shah was supporting an independent candidate.

ECP to change polling date for last phase of LG polls in Punjab, Sindh

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has agreed to change the polling date for the third and last phase of upcoming local government elections in Punjab and Sindh scheduled for Dec 3.

A four-member delegation of Tehreek-i-Nifaz-i-Fiqh-i-Jafaria (TNFJ) led by its secretary general Sakhawat Hussain Kazmi held a meeting with Chief Election Commissioner retired Justice Sardar Mohammad Raza Khan and other members of the commission here on Monday and asked for a change in the polling date, pointing out that the Chehlum of Imam Husain would be observed on the same date.

Parliament Re-Elects Members of its Committees

Parliament convened on Tuesday to elect members of its various committees, as well as members of its bureau.

It re-elected the members of the committees and renewed the terms of its treasurers, reported al-Jadeed television.

Lebanese Forces MP Antoine Zahra replaced Mustaqbal MP Robert Fadel in the finance committee.

Fadel in turn replaced LF MP Fadi Karam in the economics committee.

The session was held without incident or political bickering that had marred committee sessions.

Abou Faour: Government Will 'Enter a Coma'

Health Minister Wael Abou Faour announced Monday that Prime Minister Tammam Salam's government is on the brink of entering a “coma.”

“The government will enter a coma and it will only wake up to address the garbage crisis exclusively,” Abou Faour, who is close to Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat, told Voice of Lebanon radio (93.3).

“No contacts can rescue the government from the state of paralysis it is heading into,” the minister noted.

Muscat: A total of 107 centres have been approved by the Ministry of Interior for the casting of votes for the Majlis Al Shura elections scheduled for October 25. The polling booths in the various wilayats are as follows:

ECP says it had provided voter lists to PTI before by-elections

ISLAMABAD: The Elec­tion Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has clarified that it had already provided to the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) voter lists used in the general elections 2013 and also those used in the recently held by-elections in NA-122 constituency.

Responding to a PTI statement on the issue of voter lists, a spokesperson for the commission said on Sunday that at the time of 2013 elections, there were 326,028 registered voters in NA-122 and during the by-elections held this year the number of registered voters was 347,762, increase of 21,734.
