La campagne présidentielle tunisienne s'ouvre officiellement lundi, laissant apparaître de nombreuses incertitudes quant à la popularité de chacun des 26 candidats.

 

Un mois après le décès du chef de l’État Béji Caïd Essebsi, la campagne présidentielle s’ouvre officiellement lundi 2 septembre en Tunisie. Un scrutin aussi indécis que vital pour l’unique pays rescapé des Printemps arabesde 2011, qui doit encore consolider ses acquis démocratiques.

Dans un discours adressé aux Tunisiens à l’occasion du démarrage, le 2 septembre, de la campagne électorale de l’élection présidentielle anticipée, le président de la République par intérim, Mohamed Ennaceur, a dénoncé les atteintes portées par certaines parties au processus électoral et aux appareils de l’Etat.

FNC elections: 555 Emiratis, including 200 women, file candidacy

A total of 98 Emiratis filed their candidacy for the Federal National Council (FNC) elections on the last day of registration of application, taking the total figure up to 555, including 200 from women in five days.

On Thursday, Abu Dhabi received 27 applications, Dubai 26, Sharjah 18, and Ajman saw six. While no applications were registered in Umm Al Quwain on the fifth day, Ras Al Khaimah recorded 14 applications and Fujairah saw seven.

Chairperson of the Independent Election Commission, Hawa Alam Nuristani, at a press conference on Tuesday assured that her team is fully ready to hold the presidential election on its scheduled time. 

She said that all required election materials, including ballot papers, result sheets, and ink, have arrived from abroad and the transfer of the materials to provinces has also started.

Figures by the IEC show that 9.6 million people have registered to vote. 

Mrs. Nuristani said that holding a national identity card and fingerprint will be a must on election day.

Abu Dhabi: Nine candidate registration centres will start receiving applications for Federal National Council (FNC) membership this week.

All eligible potential candidates wishing to submit their applications can do so at centres in their respective emirate from Sunday to Thursday, between 8am to 3pm. There are three centres in Abu Dhabi, and one each in Dubai, Sharjah, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah.

Presidential candidate Rahmatullah Nabil at his first election rally in Kabul on Saturday accused the National Unity Government leaders – President Ghani and Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah – of pursuing policies which fuel discrimination among the people.

Nabil said the government leaders have failed to serve the people and practice good governance over the past five years.

Nabil, who represents the Security and Justice Election Campaign Team, invited Abdullah and Ghani for an election debate.

US ready for ‘Good agreement’ with Taliban: Khalilzad

The US Special Representative for Afghanistan’s Reconciliation, Zalmay Khalilzad, who has arrived in Doha for another round of talks with the Taliban, said on Saturday that the United States is ready for “a good agreement” with the Taliban.

Khalilzad said in a tweet that the “Taliban are signaling they would like to conclude an agreement” but he reiterated that the US is pursuing a peace agreement, not a withdrawal agreement. A peace agreement that enables withdrawal, he added.

La junta militar de Sudán ha asegurado este miércoles haber desarticulado un intento de golpe de Estado y haber arrestado a varios oficiales, según ha informado la agencia estatal sudanesa de noticias, SUNA.

El Consejo Militar de Transición ha resaltado que «el objetivo del intento de golpe era abortar la gloriosa revolución del pueblo y el retorno del antiguo sistema del Partido del Congreso Nacional»
