Algérie : Abdelmadji Sidi-Saïd n’est plus le secrétaire général de l’UGTA
Abdelmadjid Sidi-Saïd a annoncé officiellement son départ de son poste de secrétaire général de l’Union générale des travailleurs algériens (UGTA), ce vendredi 21 juin, lors de son discours inaugural du 13e congrès de la centrale syndicale.
UGTA : Election d’une nouvelle direction aujourd’hui
Quelque 800 délégués participent, aujourd’hui à Alger, au 13e congrès de l’UGTA dont l’ordre du jour prévoit l’élection de la nouvelle direction de la centrale syndicale.
Dans une déclaration à l’APS, le secrétaire national chargé des relations publiques à l’union, Ahmed Guetiche a indiqué que 800 délégués de wilaya, dont les responsables d’une trentaine de fédérations de différents secteurs professionnels, participeront aux travaux de ce congrès de deux jours qui verra l’élection de la nouvelle direction de l’Union et l’évaluation du travail accompli.
IEC Allocates $30M For Purchasing Biometric Devices
The Independent Election Commission (IEC) on Tuesday announced the allocation of $30 million for purchasing biometric identification devices ahead of the September presidential elections.
The head of the IEC secretariate, Habib-Ur-Rahman Nang said the election commission has finalized $150 million as the budget for the elections and that it has been shared with the Ministry of Finance.
Nang made the statement during a ceremony that marked the official launch of distribution of certificates and identity cards to the election observers.

L’ex-président égyptien Mohamed Morsi est mort après une audition au tribunal au Caire à la suite d’un malaise, a annoncé ce lundi la télévision d’Etat égyptienne. L’ex-dirigeant avait été élu en 2012 après la révolte qui avait provoqué le départ d’Hosni Moubarak dans le cadre du printemps arabe. Il avait ensuite été renversé en 2013 par Abdel Fattah al-Sissi, l’actuel président.
Iraq's electoral commission postpones local elections until April 2020
ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Iraq’s Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) announced on Monday that provincial elections will be held across the country on April 20, 2020, the second time the date has been changed this year.
They were originally set to take place on Dec. 22, 2018, but IHEC announced in January that they would be postponed until November 2019, five months before the new date just announced.
“The election has been delayed for two years now,” commission member Hazim Redini told Kurdistan 24.
Libya's Sarraj calls for elections in 2019 to end war
The head of Libya's UN-supported government on Sunday proposed holding nationwide elections to end the war in the North African country, as the forces of the rival military commander Khalifa Haftar continue their two-month-long battle to take the capital, Tripoli.
Prime Minister Fayez al-Sarraj told a news conference in Tripoli, the seat of his administration, that he is proposing a "Libyan forum" aimed at finding a peaceful solution to the conflict. The talks would draw up a roadmap for parliamentary and presidential elections to be held before the end of 2019.

Halbousi elected as new president of Iraqi Forces Alliance
The Iraqi Forces Alliance has elected Mohamed al-Halbousi, the Iraqi parliament speaker, as its president, and Falah Zaidan as the head of the parliamentary bloc.
Halbousi and Zaidan were elected during a meeting attended by more than 40 MPs of the Iraqi Forces Alliance, according to a statement by the alliance.
The National Axis Alliance, which was considered to be the largest Sunni bloc in the Iraqi parliament was divided in mid-May to two alliances; the Iraqi Forces Alliance, and the National Axis Alliance led by Khamis al-Khanjar, following internal differences.

IEC Faces Lack Of Planning For Elections: Observers
A group of election observers and representatives of Afghanistan’s mainstream political parties on Thursday held a public debate with members of the Independent Election Commission, or the IEC, on issues around the upcoming presidential polls.
The attendants of the “national conference on elections” criticized the IEC for not having a proper plan for moving forward the electoral process.
Many of the critics at the event claimed that the IEC is making deliberate attempts to prevent a transparent election.
