PETALING JAYA: PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail (pic) has warned outsiders not to cause trouble during the party’s elections.

She said there were cases of indiscipline in many of the party’s polling centres nationwide that actually been conducted democratically but was hijacked by non-members.

“Early findings from the PKR Election Committee show that the chaos during the voting process was caused by non-party members who were instigated by gangsters to do so.

Sudan’s NUP denies statements attributed to its detained leader on national dialogue

Sudan’s opposition National Umma Party (NUP) has belied press reports quoting its imprisoned leader al-Sadiq al-Mahdi as saying that he is committed to national dialogue despite his detention.

The NUP politburo in statement on Tuesday, said al-Mahdi is not in a position that would allow him to make statements, stressing that the party institutions are the only credible source of information conveyed from its leader.

It accused the government and its followers of promoting those statements in order to undermine the NUP stances and discredit its leader’s firm positions.

Syrians began voting on Tuesday in an election expected to deliver an overwhelming victory to President Bashar Assad in the midst of a civil war that has fractured the country and killed more than 160,000 people.

Polling stations opened at 7 a.m. (0400 GMT) in parts of Syria under Assad's government control.

"We hope for security and stability," said Hussam al-Din al Aws, an Arabic teacher who was the first person to vote at one polling station at a Damascus secondary school. Asked who would win, he responded: "God willing, President Bashar al-Assad."

A Bahraini court has sentenced a group of 21 anti-regime protesters to 15 years in jail each amid the ongoing harsh crackdown on the country’s dissent.

Bahrain’s largest opposition party al-Wefaq said in a statement on Tuesday that the defendants were subjected to torture during their detention and interrogation sessions.

Scores of Bahraini political activists have already been placed behind bars for organizing or taking part in anti-regime demonstrations across the oil-rich monarchy due to its appalling human rights record.

L’élection du nouveau secrétaire général du PPS (Parti du Progrès et du Socialisme) se tiendra lundi 2 juin en fin d’après midi, les travaux du congrès ayant continué jusqu’au bout de la nuit de dimanche.
