Jakarta. Dahlan Iskan, the most popular contender in the Democratic Party convention, has officially joined the party.

The state-owned enterprise minister announced his decision to officially join the Democratic Party in front of his supporters in Magelang, Central Java on Sunday.

Dahlan said he finally made up his mind about joining the party after witnessing the efforts made by his supporters, which have made him the strongest contender for the convention according to various survey.

“The difference with another contender is quite sharp,” he told Tempo newspaper.

“I want to apologize for not having done much in the past five years,” legislator Rieke Diah Pitaloka told a crowd of young people during a youth event in South Jakarta last December.

“As long as there are laborers being treated unfairly, I haven’t succeeded in my job as a politician,” she continued.

“As long as there are Indonesian migrant workers being sentenced to death in other countries, we haven’t succeeded. As long as there are poor people being refused treatment in hospitals, we haven’t succeeded.”

QUETTA: Re-elections for local bodies’ seats were held on Sunday in five districts of Balochistan – Loralai, Pishin, Killa Saifullah and Musa Khail.

Re-polling was held due to discrepancies in the results, the provincial election commission said.

“Elections were held peacefully. However, polling could not take place in Union Council Malik Yar Pishin due to error in symbols and law and order issue,” Election Commissioner Balochistan Sultan Bayzeed told The Express Tribune.

ISLAMABAD: Local government elections in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa are due on April 30 but with a long things-to-do list and disagreements, officials believe that both the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf-led provincial government and the Election Commission of Pakistan cannot meet the deadline.

Despite persistent pressure from the Supreme Court, none of the provinces, except Balochistan, have any working local government system – a promise all the political parties made in their manifestos before last year’s general elections.

Women MPAs have no concern with development schemes such as construction and the paving of streets, and should refrain from doing tasks which fall under the duties of male MPAs and government departments, said Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister (CM) Pervez Khattak.

According to an official handout, the CM asked female MPAs to avoid suggesting such high-risk schemes, which could potentially result in the wastage of capital. These views were expressed by Khattak on Sunday while addressing a delegation of female legislators at the CM Secretariat.

Iraq is preparing for general elections at the end of April. Egypt's Presidential Elections Commission (PEC), the judicial body tasked with supervising Egypt's upcoming presidential elections, has issued the executive regulations for a newly issued law governing the polls.

The 55-article regulations define the procedures of the PEC's meetings and the application documents required from hopeful candidates, among other matters.

According to article 15, those wishing to run in the elections should be able to apply to the PEC over a period between 10 and 30 days.

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has once again accused US-based Turkish cleric Fethullah Gulen of attempting to incite chaos in Turkey ahead of key local elections.

Erdogan made the remarks in an election rally in the town of Manisa on Sunday, describing Gulen as the leader of “neo-Ergenekon.” Ergenekon was the name of an organization with links to Turkey’s military which Erdogan accused of attempting to topple his government.
