Embattled Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim found support for his continued leadership in Datuk Zaid Ibrahim who announced his candidacy for the Mar 23 by-election.

"This decision (to contest) was made after careful thought and consultation and in the interest of "principled politics."

 

"I recognise and respect the mandate given to the current state leadership (Khalid)," Zaid, the former Parti Kesejahteraan Insan Malaysia (Kita) president, told a press conference here. Present was his wife Datin Suliana Shamsuddin.

La directive de Amar Saâdani va à contresens de la campagne virulente qu’il avait menée lui-même, contre Mohamed Mediene, directeur général du DRS.  

Le SG du FLN, Amar Saâdani a adressé, ce dimanche, une directive aux responsables des instances nationales et locales du parti les invitant à « cesser toute polémique politique ». Les secrétaires des mouhafadhas et les présidents  des commissions transitoires doivent réserver leurs déclarations « aux seules questions organiques intéressant  le parti et aux préparatifs en cours de la campagne électorale… ».

Sudan’s opposition coalition holds talks with NCP splinter faction

The leaders of Sudanese opposition coalition of the National Consensus Forces (NCF) held a meeting on Saturday with their peers in the Reform Now Party (RNP) which was formed late last year after it split with the ruling National Congress Party (NCP).

The meeting, which follows a series of talks held between the RNP and other political forces, agreed on the importance of removing restrictions on freedoms, stopping the war and the creation of the atmosphere for national dialogue in order to reach a comprehensive national reconciliation.

Prime Minister Tammam Salam Saturday formed his 24-member Cabinet, bringing together figures from the country’s rival political groups and ending months of political deadlock.

Salam’s government will face a number of challenges including Lebanon’s deteriorating security situation as well as the upcoming presidential elections due on May 25.

Parliament gives government more control over judiciary

Turkey's parliament approved a law giving the government more control over the appointment of judges and prosecutors on Saturday, after heated debate and a brawl in which an opposition member of parliament was hospitalized.

The decision to approve the law came after a night of heated debate and a brawl that left one opposition member of parliament with a bloody nose. Media reported that Ali ihsan Kökturk, deputy for the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP), was hospitalized with a broken nose.

SPLM-N rebels say Khartoum is not interested in comprehensive peace

Sudan People’s Liberation Movement North (SPLM-N) on Friday criticized the position paper presented by the Sudanese government during the first days of negotiations, saying Khartoum is only interested in partial solutions.

In a three-hour meeting held on Friday, the Sudanese government and rebel delegations exchanged their negotiating position papers before to engage in talks brokered by African Union High-Level Implementation Panel (AUHIP) over the resolution of the armed conflict in South Kordofan and Blue Nile.

Le Forum des chefs d’entreprises (FCE) a convoqué une nouvelle assemblée générale extraordinaire pour mercredi 26 février afin de se prononcer sur la présidentielle du 17 avril prochain.

Dans l’invitation adressée le 12 février aux membres de l’AG, l’organisation patronale de Réda Hamiani précise : « en raison de l’absence du quorum à l’Assemblée générale extraordinaire du 10 février 2014, l’Assemblée générale est convoquée de nouveau, conformément  à l’article 21 des statuts du FCE, le mercredi 26 février 2014 à 15h00 à l’hôtel Aurassi, niveau B ».
