Jumblatt calls for including Hezbollah in new Cabinet

Hezbollah should be included in Lebanon's next government, Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblatt said in remarks published Saturday, as politicians look for ways to reboot the Cabinet formation process and tensions over the Syrian conflict simmer.

“I believe in the principle of Hezbollah's participation in the government, whether directly or indirectly, since it is not possible to isolate anyone or abolish anyone,” Jumblatt told the daily As-Safir.

Ruling AKP dismisses rumors of early election after executive meeting

Rumors on an early election are completely unfounded, ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) spokesman Hüseyin Çelik told reporters today following a meeting of the party’s Central Decision and Executive Council (MKYK) in Istanbul amid the ongoing Gezi Park protests. Çelik confirmed that the parliamentary elections will be held in 2015 as scheduled.

Main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu struck out at Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s statements on the Gezi Park protests upon the latter’s arrival from an African trip. 

During his speech late on June 6, Erdoğan said a lobby of interest groups was behind the protests, which started with a small sit-in gathering but turned into nationwide rallies within days.

Election observers have called on political party leaders to do more to prevent poll-related violence from breaking out, following an arson attack in South Sumatra on Tuesday ahead of Thursday’s gubernatorial ballot there.

Zulfian S. Rehalat, the executive director of the Jakarta Institute, a think tank, said at a discussion on Wednesday that party elites were aware of the potential for friction from grassroots campaigns escalation into violence, and thus had a responsibility to scale back the tensions.

Vice Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Shamil Atakhanov vacated his office, the President’s Office reports.

According to its information, President Almazbek Atambaev signed his resignation letter.

“People should work in team and use team approaches in solving complex issues and crisis situations,” Shamil Atakhanov said.

The now ex-vice prime minister added “any leader must defend his team and listen to it; but when he doesn’t and when a government lacks constructive endeavor, working by oneself is useless”.

NDC representatives petition against Sheikh Ali Abdi Rabbo Awadi

A number of National Dialogue Conference representatives filed a petition against Sheikh Ali Abdi Rabbo Awadi, to see his membership revoked based on his alleged cover up of Khaled Mohammed al-Khatib and Hassan Jaafar Aman' s murder in May by the hand of his fellow tribesmen.
According to police reports both Khaled Mohammed al-Khatib and Hassan Jaafar Aman were gunned down by men belonging to Sheilh Awadi's clan, whom claimed activists and politicians immediately intervened in their favor by sheltering them from the authorities, thus preventing their arrest.

PKS Mulls Withdrawal From Ruling Coalition

The Prosperous Justice Party is considering leaving the ruling coalition led by the Democratic Party, party lawmaker Sohibul Imam said on Tuesday.

Sohibul said a decision on the Islam-inspired party’s place in the coalition would be made by the party’s consultative council (Majelis Syuro). He said there had been no discussion on the matter at last month’s council meeting.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif became the first politician in the country’s parliamentary history to make it to the office of prime minister for a third time, reported Express News on Wednesday.

Nawaz Sharif beat his competition by receiving a total of 244 votes, whereas Makhdoom Javed Hashmi received 31 votes and Makdhoom Amin Fahim recieved a total of 42 votes.

After formally chosen by a vote in the National Assembly, Sharif is set to take the oath from President Asif Ali Zardari at 5pm local time.

Sudan’s opposition PCP says regime downfall ‘imminent’

Sudan’s opposition Popular Congress Party (PCP) has expressed optimism on the imminent demise of the Sudanese regime to bring what it says was two decades of turbulence, corruption and civil wars to an end.

The PCP’s political secretary Kamal Omer declared on Monday that opposition forces are united around the goal of toppling the regime led by president Omer Hassan al-Bashir and said that the opposition is setting up coordination committees among grassroots to bring about an unprecedented breakthrough.

Deputy PM, President Gül hold ‘positive’ meeting over Gezi protests

Deputy Prime Minister Bülent Arınç told reporters today that he held a positive meeting and received instructions from President Abdullah Gül during a meeting to address the Gezi Park protests sweeping Turkey.

“We had a positive meeting. We received his instructions and shared opinions,” said Arınç.
Arınç said he met the president in his capacity as deputy prime minister amid Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s visit to Morocco.

GEORGE TOWN: The Gerakan party election at the national level, which has been postponed since 2011 to concentrate on the 13th general election (GE13) on May 5, will be held on Oct 26.

The National Party Election Supervisory Committee chairman, Tan Sri Dr Chin Fook Weng said the election process would begin with elections at the branch level tomorrow (June 5).

Abbas names university president as prime minister

RAMALLAH (Ma'an) -- President Abbas is set to appoint Rami Hamdallah as the new Palestinian Authority prime minister, officials told Ma'an Sunday.

Hamdallah, who is president of An-Najah University, will replace outgoing prime minister Salam Fayyad, who resigned on April 13 after months of tension with Abbas.

Kamal al-Sharafati will replace Majida al-Masri as PA minister of social affairs, the officials added.
