The inner conflicts are ongoing within the Republican People’s Party (CHP). The discussions regarding who would take which seat have already begun although there is still about a year until the first election. With the local elections that will be held in March, 2014, the CHP will determine its candidates for the presidential elections in August. There are thousands of candidates for hundreds of seats including metropolitan, provincial, and district municipalities. 

March 14 proposes nonpartisan Cabinet

BEIRUT: The March 14 coalition is proposing the formation of a nonpartisan government that would exclude all major political parties in a bid to break the two-month-long Cabinet deadlock, former Prime Minister Fouad Siniora said Sunday.

The proposal comes as Prime Minister-designate Tammam Salam prepares to resume consultations this week on the formation of a new Cabinet amid signs that his efforts still face major hurdles, while the rival factions remain divided over the shape, makeup and role of the next government.

Emergency state extended to one month

The emergency state will be further extended to one month as of June 4, 2013, the Presidency of the Republic announced on Monday.

"The decision was taken by Caretaker President Moncef Marzouki after consultation with Interim Prime Minister Ali Larayedh, National Constituent Assembly President Mustapha Ben Jaafar and security authorities," said a statement of the Presidency of the Republic.

The emergency state was decreed on January 14, 2011 and extended consecutively since August 1, 2011, by virtue of the decree n°999-2011 of July 21, 2011.

The Gulf Cooperation Council yesterday unanimously declared Lebanon-based Hezbollah a terrorist organization and said it would take measures against the group’s interest in the Gulf countries.
“All GCC countries are convinced that Hezbollah is a terrorist organization,” Bahrain’s Foreign Minister Ghanim bin Fadl Al-Buainain told reporters following a meeting of GCC foreign ministers in Jeddah.

Tribal council supports election process

Afghanistan’s Tribal Solidarity Council on Sunday promised cooperation with government in ensuring security for next year’s presidential elections.

 

Tribal elders across the country were ready to cooperate with government in conducting the elections, a national process, in a transparent manner, the council chairman said.

 

Ghazi Nawaz Tanai told a gathering in Kabul: “We are willing to promote public awareness about polls and cooperate with security organs...”

 

Egypt's Shura Council upholds its legislative powers - presidency

Egyptian presidency said on Sunday that the constitution, approved by the majority in a popular referendum, is a reference to all citizens for them to act accordingly.

The presidency added that respecting the constitution is dutiful to all the authorities of the state, in a statement published on its official page.

“The Shura Council (upper house of parliament) will continue to practice its legislative powers until the election of the lower house of parliament,” said the statement.

Political parties form parallel governments

The National Salvation Front (NSF), as well as the Al-Watan, Al-Wasat and Ghad Al-Thawra parties revealed their plans to create parallel parliaments and shadow governments.

Ahmed Hawary, NSF spokesperson, told Daily News Egypt “the formation of a parallel government is still a suggested idea” and that they have not come up with the final plan for this shadow government.

Mustapha Ben Jaâfar, président de l'Assemblée nationale constituante (Anc), a annoncé, samedi matin, la fin officielle des travaux du Comité mixte de coordination et de rédaction avec le projet final de la constitution.

Le projet final de la constitution doit être publié aujourd'hui sur le site officiel de l'Anc.

Selon M. Ben Jaâfar, cette version finale est passée par différentes étapes et versions depuis la première mouture, publié en août 2012, afin d'être amélioré.

Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati announced his intention Wednesday to revive the dormant National Dialogue after the country saw a rise in Syria-linked violence in the past week.

“I urge President Michel Sleiman, the symbol of the country’s unity, to call for dialogue where every party will attend without preconditions and will be willing to make concessions for the sake of the homeland,” Mikati said in a nationally televised speech from the Grand Serail in Beirut.

Founders of Egypt’s 'Rebel' campaign, a newly established movement that aims to withdraw confidence from President Mohamed Morsi by collecting citizens' signatures, spoke at an open forum on Wednesday to discuss the campaign, which has recently gone viral online and on the streets.

'Rebel' campaigners hope to collect 15 million signatures and hold a mass sit-in on 30 June – marking the end of Morsi's first year as president – to call for snap presidential elections and force Morsi out of office.
